RE: There something alive in my black tank..

Does your toilet dump straight into the black tank? Mine doesn't, has a short curved pipe that goes about 12" towards the rear of the coach. Monaco did not mount the toilet directly over the tank. If we don't do a good flush with plenty of water, material can get stuck in this short pipe and eventually it will clog and not allow anything to pass. But before that happens, when flushing, the flushed material will get caught in the short pipe and "gurgle" as it slowly drains into the tank. Perhaps you have a similar setup.

RE: Patio room attached or detached???

I wanted to get something similar, but since being on the road a couple years now I can honestly say I'm glad I didn't spend the money. Lawn chairs, BBQ, awnings, sat dish, patio mat, all need to be stowed when the wind picks up. Some parts of the country have high winds frequently (not sure where you plan to travel).
I prefer to keep things simple and try to limit the outside items so I have less work (and it seems the wind always kicks up in the middle of the night). Not sure how an insurance company would handle a claim if your room detached and caused damage to another coach.

RE: Computer screen output to TV

That would be one way...but the advertisement hinted that the laptop comes with the capability to "stream" the laptop screen to the TV. Of course they didn't mention if hardware was added to the TV. I will see if I can catch the laptop brand the next time I see the ad on TV then do some research on their site.

Computer screen output to TV

I saw an ad for laptop computers yesterday and they said they can send the laptop screen display to the TV via wireless. Anybody know how this works? Does the laptop come with hardware that is added to one of the TV inputs to receive/inject the signal? Or is the laptop transmitting the signal on a channel frequency like channel 3 or 4 and the TV antenna picks up the signal and you just tune the TV to the correct channel?

RE: Class C to Class A DW is afraid!

DW doesn't drive our coach either, I do all the driving. FWIW, we don't travel much over 250 miles a day so I really don't need her to drive. We do plan on taking a driving class as I am sure there are things I don't know, and it would be nice to know DW could drive the coach if needed. Unfortunately I don't know of any classes you and your DW could get into that provide a coach, they all seem use your coach for instruction.

RE: Verizon - Had to Fire them in 7 days, Data Plan Access Scam

True enough, and to some extent I agree with you. But $20k? From a pure business standpoint Verizon should have been asking themselves "Is this customer able to pay the bill"? Granted there was no history with this customer, but $20k?

RE: Portable water softener

On the units that are priced around $250 I have a question. Do you fill your water tank and then use the pump or do these go inline and use hose pressure? I have a large water filter mounted in a perfect spot that I could replace it with.
Mine hooks up to the city water feed. I use the FlowPur Mark-8000.
I checked out the R/O systems, they use city water, process the water, and add it to your freshwater tank. You use your onboard water pump for all your water needs inside the coach.
I didn't purchase a R/O system for one reason...they waste a LOT of water. I don't remember the exact figure, but something like 5 or 10 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of filtered water. And they are slow to recover. The one I looked at was capable of 40 gallons a day of processed water.
And the Monaco plumbing would need to be modified due to the way the city/tank fill switch works.
Some CG's do not allow R/O use...because of the amount of water used and the waste produced.

RE: Verizon - Had to Fire them in 7 days, Data Plan Access Scam

Saw this on the local news a few weeks ago...another Verizon blunder story.
http://www.switched.com/2009/12/14/teen-racks-up-21-917-cell-phone-bill-dad-flabbergasted/
You would think the phone company would have disabled the data access when the bill reached a few thousand dollars...but not Verizon!!!

RE: Question on receiving WiFi signal?

I would suspect something else before the wifi adapter. See if a friend has an external wifi adapter you could borrow for testing.
Has anyone cleaned the inside of the laptop? Virus checker up-to-date?

RE: Help, I've run out of propane and no one will deliver.

I was staying in Yuba City and had my tank refilled on site by a guy out of New Castle...slick operation. He has a portable tank he hauls behind his truck. Was very nice not having to break camp to get my tank filled.

RE: Holding Tank Help

I believe I had a soap scum blockage in my gray tank. I leave my gray line open and my SaniCon has the gray bypass. We usually stay parked for 3-5 months at a time. When we get ready to leave I drain both tanks, then fill both tanks half way with clean water, then dump in some Thetford Level Gauge Cleaner to both tanks. We then hit the road and allow the sloshing water to clean the tanks. I then dump the tanks when we stop for the night. Usually this works very well and leaves my tanks clean and gauges reading empty.
On our last move I setup my tanks and we hit the road. But that night, in Amarillo TX the wind was blowing and I didn't want to chance opening the bay door, so I decided to wait for morning. The next morning the black tank emptied fine, but when I opened the gray valve nothing happened. I carry a closet auger so I used that and was able to free up the gray drain. What I noticed was the first stuff to hit the drain looked like...hard to describe...it was white, solid, thin flake, chunks.
What I think happened is that by leaving the gray tank to always drain that soap scum built up in the tank. Then the level gauge cleaner reacted with the soap and caused it to solidify. The solid stuff settled to the bottom of the tank and blocked the drain. I suspect if I had dumped when we first arrived at the CG it would have been fine, but by waiting until morning the "stuff" settled and solidified.
I'm just posting my observations.

RE: California Hwy 1 (Ft Bragg area)

Hwy 1 from Leggit to Ft Bragg is very narrow and tight turns and is a Red Route from Cal Trans, that means 40 and 45 Ft Motorhomes are prohibited.
The pdf file says up to 40' is ok.

RE: For the Fulltimers amoung us????

Are all states requiring this "proof" of residency? What about those of us with no S&B place to call home? Being a "homeless" full-timer myself I can see this being a big problem when I need to renew my DL.
Is there any org looking out for RV'ers? SKP's??
