RE: Keeping Track of Weather

I use an Oregon Scientific weather radio. My CB also has weather channels. I also run my own wx station as a hobby and have access to many wx sources. NWS is good as well as Weather Underground.

RE: Direct TV locals

You should be able to get DNS service if you file a waiver with Direct. But that won't get you locals. DNS is just the east/west networks (ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX). Are you able to pick up any locals on your batwing antenna?

RE: Television problem

Ours is a model LC-32D43U and is almost 3 years old now so no warranty. I guess we will continue to use it until total failure. Amazon still sells them for $999 new but I'm thinking maybe we should look for something else that will fit in the mount. I'd prefer a TV that lasts longer than 3 years. Thanks for the replies.

Television problem

32" Sharp Aquos - when we turn it on in the morning the screen is showing vertical lines all across the screen. Audio is fine. After 15-20 minutes the picture returns and is fine until the next morning.
All my troubleshooting points to the TV itself being the problem. Unit was factory installed in the coach. Are these sets repairable? Is there anything I can try to resolve the problem?

RE: 2005 Monaco Diplomat Relay Solenoid

Mine went bad on our maiden trip and I had it replaced under warranty. When it goes bad again I will just remove it. The picture you posted shows the switch removed and bypassed and that is exactly what I plan to do with mine. As for the other wires I would just tape the ends and wire tie them to secure.
The switch is in the outside compartment below the drivers window in the electronics bay. Commonly called the salesman switch, it removes 12VDC from the coach. The switch to energize the salesman switch is normally located just inside the entry door.

RE: Suge protectors

I believe the cheaper models are just surge protectors.
The expensive models have both surge protection and voltage protection to include:
Reverse Polarity Protection
Open Neutral Protection
Open Ground Protection
AC Frequency Protection
Accidental 220V Protection

RE: AMAZON.COM

Plan on 4 days @ 10 hours until about Thanksgiving (or when the backlog of orders gets high) then they start doing overtime.

RE: Monaco Diplomat

Did they buy the coach in new condition or was it used? The only problem I know of that affected the Diplomat is the relay for alternating charging the batteries and when using the boost switch. Mine wasn't working and the guy who replaced it said it was a well known problem.
Not sure it would qualify, but the salesman cutout switch is prone to failure as well. I've seen a lot of folks replacing them or bypassing them. The switch is near the door entry and is labeled "BAT CUT OUT". It turns off 12VDC in the coach. More of a nuisance problem than anything else, but it's good to know how to bypass when it fails.

RE: AMAZON.COM

If I were you I would keep in touch with them.
From what I understand there are quite a few people that either do not show or quit before the end of the season.
Maybe you could pick up one of those vacancies.
Someone mentioned driving to a job only to find it did not exist. Has anyone had that happen to them at Amazon?
Yes, some people leave early. Some find the job to be harder than expected. Other leave early for family emergencies or similar.
Keep in mind that in previous years, Amazon used Express Employment (Mark Kays) to manage the workampers. Amazon decided to go it alone this year and it sounds like they still have some bugs to work out.

RE: Oregon Coast

The Oregon coast is a large place. Did you have any specific area/town in mind? Do you want to park your RV on the beach, or would you be willing to walk a hundred yards to reach the beach?

RE: Arco, Idaho

Number hill is interesting...and Pickles is a great place to eat. We did the Craters of the Moon (took us all day). Also check out King Mountain to see if hang gliders are flying...when we were there they had a national qualifying event.

RE: Workampers for now and winter

For anyone familiar with this area, what is the winter weather like at this location? Snow? Below freezing temps?

RE: Seasonal in California

I doubt you will find anything for $250/month in California. I know people who have year-round spots in Yuma for $3500/yr but pay electric. In Quartzsite, AZ. you can dry-camp (with a permit) for not much money. Both these locations are very hot in the summer.
The place we're hosting in Oregon charge $400/month (includes electric). About 450 miles to Fairfield from here via I-5.

RE: Monitor lights

Flush your tank after dumping...continue flushing until the sensors read empty. There are chemicals that can be used to help maintain a clean tank. Soft water will also help keep material from sticking to the walls of the tank.
One thing I have found is that it is much easier to keep the sensors/tank clean rather than ignoring the issue and letting it get worse and worse before attacking the problem. Maybe that's why people give up and use the excuse that the sensors are broke ;)

RE: Thunderstorms in the Class A

Air, good old oxygen, is a very good insulator. Lightning has no problem arcing across hundreds if not thousands of feet of it. I doubt your water hose will pose much a problem.
I did witness a class A coach that suffered a very close strike. Inside the coach you could see where the wiring had cooked in the wall. Occupant was in the rig sleeping at the time. He unhooked from the pedestal after the storm and did not apply power again. He immediately took the rig to a dealer to have it checked out. I never found out if anything else was fried.
