RE: Can workampers rate their experience?

Workamper did have a section where you could rate an employer and tell of your experience. It was interesting as some had 10 replys, 9 good and one bad...you knew the one bad was just a complainer. But some had almost every comment as a bad experience....changing hours, demands that were never agreed on, verbal abuse and it went on and on. It's the campground owners who complained that there were too many people who gave false reports about their campground, so to not offend the owners, they stopped allowing comments from workers but employers can sure write a bad comment on you even if you did nothing wrong. You can go to rvparkreviews.com and write a comment on how management treats people, how conditions are and rate the campground. Lots of people look at that and think twice.

RE: NEVER TOWED DO I NEED BRAKE SY

There are so many people out there who totally disregard safety or rules...they never buy an elbow for their sewer hose and the smell is everywhere, they pull a 20,000 trailer with a 1/2 truck, think safety is for everyone else...no safety chains, no braking system on tow vehicles yet when something happens or they get a ticket they hollar the loudest or hurt someone. Do what is safe for yourself and others.

RE: NEVER TOWED DO I NEED BRAKE SY

See http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm it breaks down any and every towing law by state...the states that require brakes are Alaska,Delaware,Florida,Hawaii,Illinois,Minn.,Missouri,Nevada,New Jersey,New Mexico,S Carolina,S Dakota & Tenn.
It's still safer towing..

RE: Recommend a basic sewer hose setup, please

We've had times where a 6' hose was all I needed to hook up to sewer. Another time, I had to use a 20' & a 10' hose to reach the connection. The slinkey hose support works great. I also use two pieces of guttering to support the hose from trailer to ground connection....I hate lifting and trying to get the hose cleaned out every time I dump....it flows downhill real nice when supported well. Also finally, use lots and lots of water...let water run into the tank every time you use it. You should end up with 2/3 water and 1/3 waste. When you open the valve to drain the tank, the force of all that water trying to get out sucks the nasty stuff with it. If you need a good cleaning of your tank, add about 10 gallons of water and dump a bag or two of ice cubes down the toilet. Take off driving and the sloshing around of ice cubes breaks down and cleans off deposits. Then the ice cubes melt, you drain it all when you arrive at the next campground.

RE: Mesa AZ. overnighter

On the East side of Mesa, Apachee Junction, is a KOA that hasn't any age restrictions, long pull through sites and allow dogs. Go East past Signal Butte and there will be a hwy sign, KOA, follow signs.

RE: How long is too long to tow?

The Nissan Titan is a nice truck but it's still a lightweight pleasure truck. Towing is limited to ultralight trailers. When you get into trailers that are 30' or larger, you're heavier than the Nissan can safely handle. The true test is steep mountain grades of 8% or so....you will drop down to a crawl on a huge hill...then smoke the brakes coming down the other side. They don't put heavy duty brakes on either. Be safe, stay small until you can upgrade the truck to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck rated to safely haul what you need or desire.

RE: No oven, no microwave: ideas about what can we cook?

Look into Dutch ovens....no campfire needed, just brickets. You can pick up a video telling how to use at Cabella's. Lots of ideas online also......I've used Dutch ovens for years, easy cleanup, can fry, bake or anything else a stove/oven can do.

RE: No Direct TV????

Go to DircTV website....1-877-616-6683 and tell them you've moved from like Minnesota to Arizona and you need to be set up. I've been doing it for 4 years and no problems. Twice I've gotten a new receiver because they said it was outdated and a new dish...all at no charge...they set it up, get a signal and I'm set for 4-6 months until I move again.

RE: No Direct TV????

Strange as I'm a full timer and every time I move and set up at a new location, I call DTV and they send someone out to set up my dish, get my signal and turn on local channels....no hassle, they show up the next day after calling. Maybe because I don't have a dish/box in a house and the RV is my only residence. I've been doing it for 4 years now and always great service.

RE: Legal length in Indiana

Many rigs are over the legal limit. Where this comes into play is if you are involved in an accident....if you are illegal in any way, you get a ticket no matter who's fault it is. It's like having a 1/2 ton truck pulling a 20,000 lb fifthwheel. Any type of accident and because you're trying to pull something more than the truck is rated, you are a factor and a ticket is usually issued.

RE: Workamping & Still do Touristy Things?

We have almost always had a work camping position where we work 3 days a week. Allowing plenty of time to do whatever we want. We have been doing this for 4 years and enjoy the freedom yet still have free camping and other perks.

RE: 30amp Site instead of 50amp

Usally about the only thing you'll notice is if you are running the air and turn on the microwave...will trip the breaker. You just have to be careful and not turn on too many things at one time.

RE: hows this sound for discount on Jayco

I ordered a new Jayco Legacy Designer fifth wheel and was told it was going to take about 6 months before delivery. After 6 months I went to check on my order....dealer couldn't find it and factory didn't have it either...I was back to square one. The dealer said, "Reorder and add whatever you want and I'll let you have it for my cost. I went overboard, satellite dish, insulated windows, etc....List was $68,000 and I got it for $37,000....so when a dealer knocks $5,000 off, he's still doing well. That was in 2003....I'm sure the ratio is about the same.

RE: hows this sound for discount on Jayco

The actual cost is around $38,000 but dealers will seldom go lower than 30% anyway....overhead, commissions, etc.

RE: Toilet problems

Not knowing all the info but, Never leave the black water tank valve open until you're ready to dump. Use lots and lots of water. Every time you use the toilet, run water for about a minute into the tank. You should end up with 2/3 water and 1/3 waste before dumping. When you open the valve to dump, the force of all that water sucks waste and water out the hole. What doesn't come out can be flushed with a wand or refilling the tank with water and redumping the second filling of water. If you want to clean out deposits left in the tank, put about 15 gallons of water and two bags of ice cubes down the toilet. Take off driving and the bouncing around ice cubes will knock off and clean the tank...ice cubes melt and you can now dump the tank.

RE: Claustrophobia in inside cabins on a cruise to Alaska

We looked at the different prices and having a room with a window isn't much more than a non window cabin. You can see ocean, glaciers, mountains and not feel like you're in a submarine. We spent very little time in the room anyway, way too many things going on. It was just a place to change clothes, shower, sleep and get going again.

RE: An idea I'd like to try...

Grab your Atlas and find a different route to where you're going instead of the interstate...a blue hwy. Now you'll see countryside, little cafe's where they bake fresh pies with flakey crusts, a BBQ shack with meat that falls off the bone. Meeting down to earth people that live away from the speed and hectic life. We find city parks where you can camp for free, nestled around towering oak trees. Watch barges going up rivers, Amish working fields with horses. So walking the beaches are neat but savor the heartland too, much to offer. Covered bridges, festivals, ethnic villages, bed & breakfast...goes on and on.

RE: Why don't people look at weight sticker in the cabinet

You're right, asking questions when answers are right in front of them. Same goes for rules in campgrounds.....how many people actually read the campground rules top to bottom? Cutting through campsites, loud music, unleashed dogs, picking up dog poop, sewer connections, cutting down trees and it goes on and on. You'll find all sorts of good information if you just read.

RE: Combined length

It will be funny when people who knowingly tow a rig with a total length of 75' or more have a fender bender or some sort of infraction. Guess who gets a ticket right away. I had a neighbor who lost his trailer because he didn't have safety chains attached. Instant ticket!!! Sooner or later it will catch up with people and hopefully it's a hefty fine....emergency stopping with 75' of trailers....accident waiting to happen.
