RE: Does anyone have two air conditioners in their FW?

Two here, too. Bought it when we were living in the Southwest US. Then moved to the south. We've been in Las Vegas int the summer 110+ degrees and have still been comfy. We also have an Onan 6500W genny for whenwe are stopped at a roadside rest area for lunch. Juan

RE: In-bed vs. bumper mounted connector plug

Mine is bed mounted but is on the rear pillar (driver side) just in front of the tailgate. Easy to reach when hitching up, the cord is out of the way, and I have never had any problems with the cable tangling in the hitch. Juan

RE: How many miles on your TV

119k on my 2004. Just towed 1100 miles this week. Juan

RE: heavy GVWR towing, at what speeds do you do?

Just drove 1100 miles from Columbus, GA to Wichita, KS. Running close to 22,000# combined (less than fully loaded). 68 is the ideal speed for my truck - that's 2000 rpm in 6th. I have 3.73's. If i drop below 60, then i have to drop a gear or I start lugging bad. I don't drive over 70. Downhills my exhaust brake keeps a check on my speed. Because of wind, we only averaged 10.0 mpg over the 1100 miles. Usually get around 11. Juan

RE: fifth wheel hitches

Well, I have a B&W and I can easily remove it myself. The top head comes off and then the base comes out in one piece. I leave it out of the truck when not in use and store it in the basement of my trailer. Keeps it out of the sun and weather. Juan

RE: water heater location Cedar Creek 36RLTS

I'm with Texas Jim - my water heater is on the street side just behind the basement door. Of course, I have no exhaust vents of any kind on the curb side. Mine is a 2005 model 36RLTS. I see yours is a 2008. TJ, what year is yours? Juan

RE: Michelin vs Michelin

Has the Cedar Creek had problems with their OE tires? FastEagle FWIW FE, my Creek came with LT235/85R16E Merits (from Canada) as OE. The tires have been on the trailer for nearly five years are are starting to show a little weather checking on them. I'm getting ready to move again and will be replacing them as "piece of mind". Last summer we went on a 23 day 4600+ mile trip with five of us aboard, scaled out no tire weighed more than 2800 pounds. Put a lot of miles on this rig in all kinds of weather, never had a problem with my tires. Juan

RE: Michelin vs Michelin

Putting a set of BFG Commercial TA's on my fiver on monday. Don't have China Bombs, but my Canadian Merits (made by Hercules) are 5 years old and beginning to crack. $670.14 for four. LT235/85R16E's, just like the factory originals. My dealer does a lot of MDT and HDT trucks as well as trailers. He sells Ribs, too, but he says these will hold up as well for my trailer. Juan

RE: 2011 Duramax 397/765

At this point in my life I have come to realize that 305 Hp and 555 lb-ft of torque move my (nearly) 14k fifth wheel anywhere i want to go at speeds that don't make me in everyone's way. And get 11 mpg to boot. The truck is putting on the miles (@118k) now, and while the mighty cummins will be good for many more, the rest of the truck is becoming more "maintenance minded". Which would be the same as any other brand (F or C). What I'd like to see is a option for a more mileage oriented motor that still has reasonbly good towing numbers (say 14k pounds!) that could get an honest 13 or 14 towing and an honest 22 or 23 empty. And not have to worry about living on the ragged edge. I'll probably replace my truck in 2011. Looks like I'll have a lot of comparing to do. Juan

RE: Bringing the Fifth Wheel to the house!

Thanks for all of the suggestions...It's too far for me to add sewer lines Have you thought about a macerator pump? You can pump your sewage much farther than a traditional drain. I have a gravel (crusher fines) pad for my trailer. It's 16' wide. I have only 20A service. I would have upgraded to a 30A or 50A, but we're moving soon. I have a sewer clean out on the same side of the house as the trailer. Juan

RE: Need tires that last

On my heavy dually I got 55k out of my last set of tires. Firestone Transforce AT's. Much more agressive than the Michelin LTX, and very quiet ride for an agressive tread. Balanced with very little weight. Mine were made in Canada. When I bought them six Michelins were over $1500. The six Transforce were $990. I bought them because I was living in the foothills of the Rockies in Colorado at the time and needed a more agressive tire than was available by Michelin. I'm running a commercial grade Bridgestone Duravis R500HD now. Juan

RE: 5th Wheel Pin Box

Rick, Hope things work out for you, I know nothing about the Curt hitches. Had the B&W since my first trailer. The jaw type works pretty well for me. My setup has worked very well. Been to both coasts with it, on rough roads and smooth, flatlands and mountains. Took a 23 day, 4600+ mile last summer through 13 states. Good travels to you. In three weeks or so I'm hitching up and moving to the central plains. Wichita here I come.

RE: Step Bars

I have XL wheel to wheel bars. I need the box step to reach in and release the fiver's hitch. I'm 6' 3" tall and still need the step. The dually fenders stick out enough that I can't reach the hitch standing next to the axle. My bars have had no problem handling my weight (I'm over 230 "dressed for success"). Juan

RE: 5th Wheel Pin Box

I just picked up a 5th wheel (new for me) that came with the trailair hitch and trailair suspension. I have not had either of these products on my old 5er so am not sure what kind of settings I should have. At this time, there is a lot of front/back bucking that is making a very rough ride. I have added air to the hitch to the point identified in the manual but not sure what else to do. The rig weighs 15000 lbs. Thanks for any assistance. Air up the pin bag to the line indicated on the shock. As for the main suspension, it's 10 psi for every 2000 pounds on the axles. I run 55 to 60 psi on the centerpoint suspension (I'm about 11,200 on the axles). I have virtually no chucking. What kind of hitch do you have? Juan

Wichita, KS Long Term Stay

Looks like I will be relocating to Wichita this spring due to changing jobs. I am looking for a place to stay for 1-3 months until we sell our house and buy a new one. Last summer on our "round the world tour" we stayed a night at the Spring Lake Campground in Halstead. It was a nice place but the drive would be a bit much. I'll be working in the east side of town. Ultimately, we are looking to relocate to the Andover area. Any suggestions? Juan

RE: Exhaust on 05 Dodge Cummins

I have the MBRP 4" single on my truck. My truck has no cat either. When not towing I have little to no drone. When towing heavy (14k) I can get a drone at 1900 RPM when I'm on the accelerator. Cruising or decelerating there is no drone. I put it on to help with EGT's. It did help a little with that, but not that much. In the end, I probably wouldn't have gone with an aftermarket exhaust knowing what I know now. My 5" polished SS Tip looks cool, though! :W Juan

RE: Tow Vehicle Tires

As another alternative - Firestone Transforce AT. I got 55k miles out of a set (which is the longest of any of the tires I've had on this truck). All terrain tread. Were great in the snow (I used to live in the Rockies). Quiet for an A/T tread. Balanced with very little weight. I paid less than $1000 for 6, mounted and balanced, new stems, disposal, etc. This was a 235/80R17E size. Mine were made in Canada. Eh. I'm currently running Bridgestone Duravis R500HD in the same size. More of a highway tread, but not a rib style. More of an All Season tire. Juan

RE: Dodge 2500 Diesel

My 2004 has about 117k miles. I have owned it since new. It has pulled our 36' fifthwheel and carried lots of big/heavy loads. I'm pretty good about maintenance. On these trucks, injectors are a source of some problems (more likely on a modded truck). An oil analysis is a good idea if you can. Running gear should be checked (ball joints, u-joints). Brakes are generally pretty good. As I would with any used vehicle I'd get it checked over by a knowledgeable mechanic before spending my money. Just curious, what are they asking for it? Juan

RE: exhaust brake add-on,Dodge 3500

Edit- Oh yea, don't forget to disengage the exhaust brake if the roads are icy. At least on my 04, the anti-lock brake sensors don't disengage the ebrake if slippage occurs. YEAH BOY HOWDY!! I learned this one the hard way one icy morning. Thank God my Pac Brake switch is easy to reach (I have a shifter mounted switch). I was also pretty quick on the clutch. Never use an exhaust brake in slippery conditions. Only 116k? You drive around with 1 foot on the brake? Just kidding Juan Yeah, I'm pretty hard on my brakes, aren't I? :B

RE: Best tires for TV

I'll throw in these: Firestone Transforce AT I got 55k miles on my last set. This is an all terrain (agressive) tread that was very good in the snow and off road. Balanced with very little weight and were pretty quiet on the road (which is something many A/T tires aren't good at). They also have a more all season highway tread (Transforce HT) When I bought mine they we're 1/2 the price of same size Michelin LTX's. Juan
