RE: 93 american eagle with 177000 miles

Ken, it sounds like a good deal to me based on your info. We have single axle delivery trucks with 8.3 Cummins where I work that pull way more weight than that coach you described, and they been going 750 thousand to a million miles on them. You'll wear your coach out before that motor goes! John

RE: Spring Fever or what?

Ray, here in Western Washington State we had no snow in the lowlands this year and had the warmest winter on record. My boss lives in Scottsdale, AZ. and he was up visiting us last month and said Scottsdale was experiencing one of the wettest winters he can recall. I'm suspect some of the snowbirds are heading back north? It's going to be in the 70's here on Saturday the first day of spring. The DW and I feed birds and a lot of them flew up north here early! We had our first Humming Bird visit us Feb. 28th. John

RE: actual useable diesel tank capacity

My experience with diesel tanks and fuel levels depends on how high the fuel pick up neck is above the bottom of the tank. I've experienced the necks to be level in the bottom of the tank to several inches above the bottom of the tank. Why some fuel tank manufactures raise the neck is so less obstructions (dirt, foreign particles etc) getting sucked into your fuel system. John

RE: Driving with limited vision UPDATED

Richard, the double vision thing happened to me one time I experienced a TIA. It's kind of a mild stroke that just affected my vision. It led me into finding that I had a blood disease. I'm on medicine now which corrected the problem. No more DV for me! Good Luck, with your health and don't be afraid to go out of the box and get a second opinion! That's what I did to make sure my long time MD was right. And he was. I suggest that you a friend that you enjoy being around that you can share your coach with on camping trips his reward he/she gets to drive for you. Good Luck my Friend. John

RE: tow bar security on overnite stops?

Chip, I didn't read all the posts here but I replaced my pins with 2 padlocks. One on the hitch side (coach) and one on the tow bar side (car). At Camping World (CW) they sell 2 padlocks with one key that fits both locks. This method also prevents someone from pulling your pins while your at a coffee shop etc. just a better and safer way to operate while traveling the road. Happy Trails, Rooster

RE: Travel from Az to OR. Want to avoid LA

You could take 95 out of Blythe up to I-40, pick up hwy 99 out of Bakersfield. NOt a bad road (99) last time we ran it. John the route Robert suggested here is a great way to avoid all the traffic. I did it years ago traveling through the desert at night (Summer Time) cooler running at night. Happy Trails, Rooster

RE: Packing for 1st Trip

Gord, just think light when packing! Example: instead of a cast iron skillet use a aluminum one, instead of porcelain plates use paper or plastic ones. This will really help as your going down your list, to protect your coach from being over weight. Happy Trails, Rooster

RE: New Calipers in my Workhorse

I don't get it, you paid your $$ and you still have the "Old" style brakes? I didn't explain it like I wanted too Fred! All the Workhorse brake work was no charge Fred. Workhorse admitted that it was there fault that my brakes went bad and fixed it for free. But, they did put the old style calipers back in because the new ones won't be ready until the end of this summer. I'm not happy about this Fred, but the bottom line is I'm back on the road and I can stop! I just don't know for how long? Rooster

RE: Tire Chains for Motorhome?

Wayne, I have a set of three railers (one chain goes over both tires on one side) that I carry with me during the winter. I got caught one winter (April 2000) in Flagstaff, AZ. of all places with a few feet of snow on the ground and no chains. Never again! I know how to put on chains so they will stay on and not cause any damage to my coach. In Washington State when driving over the Cascade Mountain Range you are required to have chains or a 4 wheel drive vehicle between November and April no matter what your driving (The WSP only checks commercial trucks for chains) but no matter what your driving if you cause or get into an accident without chains you will get a ticket. I can chain up both wheels in about 10 minutes, and I'm on my way with no delay's I'll I ask is that you get out of my way when I'm going up and over the hump! Rooster

RE: New Calipers in my Workhorse

I sure wouldn't care about saving WH a few dollars. My MH has been unusable since last summer with payments continuing, tires aging, depreciation continuing, and lost enjoyment of an expensive toy. Do you really think I care about WH for all they care about us customers? I changed my brake fluid regularly to avoid the problem. I have to agree with you William! I've been a lot kinder to them, then what they have been to us! I've had that loss of feeling enjoyment myself. And it's not a nice feeling not knowing when it will finally be taking care of? Rooster

New Calipers in my Workhorse

I finally took the coach to Gilchrist Workhorse in Tacoma, WA. and had my brakes done. I was trying to hold out for the recall calipers to save Workhorse/Bosch some $$$, but I couldn't wait any longer. If you haven't had this done yet here's the protocol which I had to go through. Dave Pratt at Gilchrist Workhorse questioned me about the brake experiences that I went through while driving. Then he did a free inspection and found damage due to the Bosch calipers. Dave then took photos of the damage and e-mailed the photos to Workhorse. Upon Workhorses observation of the photo approval was giving to Dave to fix the problem. Here's what was done to my coach at no cost to be: replaced brake calipers, replaced wheel speed sensor (ABS) with an ABS sensor kit, new seals, wheel hubs, caps, and turned the rotors, and put new brake fluid in. FYI: Prior to the inspection I told Dave that my ABS light was on all the time, my brake pedal went to the floor one time and a red light came on, and I was experiencing brake drag. Is your Workhorse Chassis affected? Yes if your Workhorse coach is a W-20, W- 21, W-22 built from July 24th 2000 through December 19, 2009. I writing this if you bought your coach used now you know. If your broke down on the road due to the brake problem Workhorse will tow your unit if deemed necessary by Workhorse service personnel. And in my case (right now) all failures encountered before the new parts become available will be repaired using the current designed parts. Any Questions call Workhorse toll free at 877-246-7731 and of yesterday I was told the new parts won't be available until late summer (Sept.) for all of you hold outs like me. Happy Trails, Rooster

RE: Speeding ticket?

The only time I've seen MH ticketing in Washington State is hauling a toad in the carpool lane! It's against the law to have a vehicle in combination driving in a carpool line with a combined weight over 10,000 pounds. Most Washington State Patrol just give you a warning unless it's an emphasis patrol. The WSP usually doesn't write speeding tickets unless your driving 10 MPH or faster or there's a emphasis speed patrol going on! John

RE: Credit Card (Unauthorized use)?

This was a subject on the local news in the Seattle area last week. The bad guys install a card swiping device into the pump. Once your card is swiped your in trouble. We use a Debit Card and the DW checks the account every time she is online. Which is 6 or more times a day. Rooster

RE: Anyone got a picture

I don't and I like the snow! I keep my RV off the snowy icy roads because the road departments around here use too much salt and that liquid solution (which works great on the roads, but eats up wiring). I forgot the name of that stuff but it's hard on equipment. Just asked the guys in our truck shop! Rooster

I live about a mile from the salt water and don't have very many problems. I wash the coach once a month and wire brush under the coach once a year. Rooster
