RE: Neat product for your Class A

I made one of those years ago (originally for cleaning up doggy doo, but that's another story). Just cut two holes in a 5 gallon bucket lid, one sized to fit the inlet on your vacuum hose, one to fit another appropriate sized hose, and screw a 4" deep piece of wood in between the hoses. The water, oil, etc will collect in the bucket. We use one with a 3/4" inlet hose to clean oily water out of the bilge on the boats, and it cost nothing. Just remember to turn it off before the bucket fills up.

RE: How best to handle payment to private seller.

Either use an escrow service or a "title attached Draft". We used those for years before wire transfers were invented. You give the bank draft to the seller, he takes it to the bank with the clear title and gets his money.

RE: What if your accelerator pedal on your DP goes postal?

It will shutoff if you turn the key off, unless the engine stop solenoid goes bad too. I can testify that you can safely stop one without power, since my engine blew going down a steep grade, around a bad curve. God Bless air brakes!!

RE: alignment of headlights

I guess it depends on what kind of rig you have. My Beaver uses Ford truck headlight assemblies which are held in place with aluminum straps and sheet metel screws. It is almost impossible to align them since you have to remove the screws, align the light, then put the screws back in...all in a place where you can only get one hand in to do the work.

Sanitized the H2O system, tested the Genturi, installed a new drinking water filter. Wished I was going somewhere today.

RE: Florida- public vs State Campgrounds

The campground near Flagler Beach is Beverly Beach campground and is right on the ocean. In the Keys, Long Key state park is on the Atlantic side of the key and on the beach. Bryn Mar near St. Augustine Beach is on the ocean, North Beach Campground in St. Augustine is on the Intercoastal Waterway, under the oaks(very nice). I don't think that your rig will fit in Anastasia State Park, but it wouldn't hurt to check. For a taste of Old Florida, visit the Welaka Area. Welaka is a very small town South of Palatka on the St. Johns River. The Welaka Lodge and Resort has a few spaces that will fit your rig. If it is booked, there is a Motor Home "community" right on the banks of Little Lake George called Lazy Days. The lots are all individually owned, but there are plenty that are rented out. If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you the name and px number of the realtor who handles the rentals. We often rent a lot there when our Kids use our condo in Welaka. Get one of the local fishing guides or Kevin at Welaka Lodge to take you and the kids up the Oclawaha RIver where you are gauranteed to see plenty of wildlife, especially gators, turtles, ospreys and Bald Eagles.

RE: grey/black water dumping

I built a seperate septic tank out of a 55 gallon drum, with a small drainfield. I actually built this system to use when I had hunting dogs, and it served my kennels. I ran a 2" line from the tank to inside the barn where I store my rig, and empty the gray water tank into the PVC. I always drain and flush the black tank at the Flying J right down the road while I fill the fuel tank before ending the trip. I have had good luck with this system.

RE: Beaver MH???

2007 Beaver Contressa, and we love it. We have 34,000 miles, have had some issues, but none were Monaco's fault.

RE: I made a genturi

I used thinwall 3" pvc drain pipe. it does not get so hot that it will melt or get soft, enough cool air comes in around the venturi to cool the exhaust. Leave about 1 1/2 tp 2" between the top of the sweep and the bottom of the 3" pipe for airflow.

RE: Monaco Diplomat 42' Tag...Should I?

Drive the coach and see the difference for yourself, then decide. I'm in the "once you have a tag, you'll never go back" crowd, and went from a 37 to a 42' tag. If the coach has a warranty, and you like the floorplan, go ahead and sell yours, then buy the new one.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Painted my new homemade Genturi. Let it dry and stored it away. Spent about an hour trying to get the rig positioned in the storage barn where all 4 slides would open. Found that the barn is 2" too narrow to open all four. What a Bummer!

I could go with the 3208, but that pink interior would be too much for me.

RE: GRAY TANKS FILL TOO FAST...

Just make sure to park over a prairie dog hole, you would be amazed how much gray water will go down that hole.

RE: First time to drive a 42' motorhome

Also remember that you have a large "no see um" zone in front. Have someone stand in front of the coach while you are in the driver's seat and slowly back up until you can see their feet. It is probably 12-14 feet in front of you. Adjust the small convex side mirrors according to the instruction found on the Lazydays drivers course. They can really be your friends, Use the mirrors to help position you correctly in the lane of travel. Really anticipate stopping distance, someone will invariably cut into your safety zone, just slow down and restore your interval.

RE: Oil Change Interval based upon oil sample results

If you plan to go that route, and it's not a bad thing, I suggest you install a Fumato valve in place of your oil pan plug. This will make sampling the oil much easier. remember to bring the engine up to operating temperature before taking the sample (just as you would if changing the oil). The valve can be easily installed without draining the crankcase by creating a vacuum in the engine with a shopvac hose in the oil fill tube and then swapping the valve for the plug (cold engine).

RE: What's in your basement?

I keep lots of stuff in plastic bins, kinda sorted as to use and just put in the ones I think I will use on that trip. The ones that always stay in are: propane grill, butane cooktop, electic skillet, electric deep fryer, 4 drawer tool chest, bins with: 1 safety equitment; spares for engine(oil, filters, belts, coolant, etc.); cleaning supplies; cooking gear ( including propane, butane, tongs spatulas and firestarters); flyfishing gear; stepladder; 4 camp chairs; two camp tables; spare parts (H2O pump, blueox parts, etc.); outdoor lights. Then when applicable; water toys; other fishing gear; air mattress and linens; and Lots of stuff I've forgotten is there.

RE: Fishing Guides around West Yellowstone Area

Coug has given you good advice. I would go to the nearest large sporting goods store ( Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, etc) and select a 4-5 weight fly rod/reel combo and learn to cast at home. There are some very good instructional DVD's that will get you thru the basics. I have a couple of rods that i bought at Gander for around $150 or so for the combo that work just fine for a beginner. If you have a local Fly shop in the area, you can find an instructor to help you learn to FISH with the fly rig. Then, when you go to Yellowstone, you'll have some basic knowledge so the guide can help you fish there. Good luck.
