RE: Water System Sanitizing

We use our shower too. We also did the bleach thing when we first got the camper. My problem is we live and camp at places that have really hard, skunky water. We had our water tested here at home and we have a high level of arsenic, very dangerous to drink, we got the osmosis filter after that. I'm sure most water is okay, but I'll keep drinking my water from the filter. I should add that we live out in the country with a deep well dug thru 175' of clay, no natural filters for our water.

RE: How many nights have you camped?

Now looking forward to this year. We have 37 days of camping reserved, starting memorial weekend (4 nights) and going to Labor day weekend (5 nights) with two 10 day trips in between as well as a few shorter trips. Gosh, I can't wait, I hate winter!

RE: Water System Sanitizing

Would this include well water at a state park? I find the smell and taste horrible. I do have a reverse osmosis filter at home and I bring my own water to drink and make coffee.

RE: Toy Hauler?

My husband and I are big 4 wheeler fans. We thought long and hard on which HTT to get, and went with the 19' shamrock. We do use two trucks when we go, but there were times where we didn't go riding and only have to pull one. Another issue we had was with the camping. If you haul your camper and quads with the same rig you have to be able to ride right from where you camp, and here in MI they are not always the best places to stay. Another reason was when we went to the camper show the racks on the HTT were only big enough for one quad and maybe if you cram it in there, one dirtbike. We have 3 quads, 2 4x4's and a sport quad, none would have fit. Make sure you check your local camping places and see if they allow you to ride from there, and is it the kind of place you would like to stay? Very limited options sometimes.

RE: Family Camping Pictures

She is very adorable! I loved when my grandkids were that young, but the older ones are a blast!

RE: Hybrids and Minivans

No - minivans are unibody. No frame. As is the Venture. See here. Unibody Vans Minivasns are NOT built on a truck frame and tow less well. DH works at GM, he says most minivans ARE built on truck frames. GM sonoma has the same frame as my old chevy venture. You are correct! I missunderstood him. He works on both platforms, but they are NOT the same frame. My dumb interpetation of what he said, he straighten me out about what he said... sorry... please forgive my dumbness. He also said he would NOT pull a HTT with a minivan, but he does pull our with a GMC Sonoma.

RE: camping rates going up for you too?

Michigan State Parks fees have also gone up. It was $24 a night last year with electric, it is now $28. We also have to pay for a yearly car sticker, which I think has gone up to $38 a car, but I'll have to check that. With our economy in Michigan so bad, how can they ever think they can make more revenue by raising the price of camping? It only chases folks away. If the parks weren't so beautiful I would be camping at private parks (I also like the rules, quiet at 11).

RE: Ready for spring

Welcome Denis and Diane, you picked the perfect HTT, if I must say so myself! Right you are, the very best HTT - so much better than the Roo 19 ;) just kiddin' we just liked the Shamrock dealer better. Made reservations too here in Ontario, 2 provincial parks: Bon Echo and Sandbanks. Next month we'll book The Pinery. Also booked 1 week at Lakewood in sunny Myrtle Beach, SC and another week near St.Augustine, FL. We'll also spend some time in the province of Québec, I promised my 80+ year old in-laws I would take them out camping for a few days. This will be fun, can't wait. Denis & Diane Used to love going to the Pinery as a young person! I think we went every 4th of July and sometimes in August. If it weren't such a hassle getting over the border I would consider going again. DH and I love riding our quads, and we have lots of trails here in MI, so we stay close to home. Funny you mentioned Myrtle Beach, my sister and I are planning a trip together after spring break is over!

RE: Ready for spring

Made our first 9 day reservation today for Onaway State Park, and making the next 9 day vaca on Sunday for Rifle River (where the kayaking is fabulous! Here in MI. DH and I love the state parks, we never have to go far and the camping is fantastic. Both reservations have lake front sites, and I love the sound of the water lapping at the shore! Gosh, do I have spring fever! I'm sure we will go somewhere Memorial weekend, we always do, but the weather has been so crappy it sometimes isn't worth it. I wonder if we should venture out of state? I don't think our little truck will be able to pull our camper over any hills? He said something about getting a gear change, I wonder if that would help?

RE: How I miss the camping season....

What is going to take them until the end of march? We had a huge leak problem and it turned out there was a 3" tear in the roof from the factory. He was just going to seal it, but I didn't think that was such a good idea, so the factory is replacing it. The dealer is in Florida for a few months, so it had to wait till they got back. It is in a storage unit on the dealers lot.

RE: Ready for spring

We are more than ready for spring here. Got 11 inches of snow yesterday...that's 10.5 inches too much:( We have not seen this much snow in years. I went out this morning to check the trailer...snow is drifted up all around the front covering the tongue. Did I say I was ready for spring?? Let me repeat in my very loud voice...I AM READY FOR SPRING! Yep, global warming!:h

Denis & Diane Welcome Denis and Diane, you picked the perfect HTT, if I must say so myself! Here is ole Michigan the cold will hold on well into May, sometimes early June. How I miss the camping season....

Winter has been long and difficult for me so far. I am already making my first reservation for the camping season. I waited too long and will not be able to get my favorite site, but I will settle for one close by. I don't want time to pass to quickly, but I sure do hate winter... Our HTT is still at the dealers, he said something about it being done end of March? I sure hope it is done by then or April would be okay too. I would love to drive the HTT down to Florida in April, but DH can't take the time off then.

RE: Anyone using a reguler bed matress in ther HTT ?

why not use memory foam? I have a bad back and I use the 3" foam and it is very comforatable. I don't think you can feel the fold thru the foam...

Rockwood Roo 183RB

Wow, just saw the video of this one on youtube, very cool camper! That rear deck would be perfect for my dogs, I wouldn't have to set up the portable kennels with that! And the grill being right there outside is pretty cool too. Only thing I didnt like was the size was similar to the 17' and that is just too small for three good size people. I know, I already have one, but I love to look!
