RE: Cracked Tanks Galore!

I have been through a whole series of tank cracking. Long story short, I found that one of the largest tank suppliers were forming the tanks with the bottom material much thinner than the design called for. They were built from around 1997 until about 2005/06. If your tank cracks in the reinforcing ridge on the bottom, this is very likely your problem. If you have one that cracks, cover the entire reinforcement area with a strip of 4" wide Eternobond tape. I consider it a permenent fix as any new tank you buy is likely to fail. I have not had a repeat failure on my tanks using the tape.

RE: dallas, tx area to salt lake city

I have traveled this route quite often over 17 years as our daughter lives in Salt Lake. The best route this time of the year would be 287 to Amarillo and I-40 to Gallup, NM, north on 491 to Montecello, UT, north on 191 to I-70, west on I-70 to Hwy 6 and north to Spanish Fork, UT, north on I-15 to SLC. Going through Cheyenne this time of the year, you can hit snow, ice and possibly a blizzard in Wyoming. I've hit them all at one time or another! You could even see a little snow along the suggested route, but nothing like you will have going any other way.

RE: What is a "slickputt"

I spent many years of my life in both northern and southern Louisiana and never heard that term. Also been around many top notch and back country cooks and never heard it from them either.

RE: Internet Hot Spots

One of the best lists is on this forum. Go to "National Parks, State Parks, RV Parks, Campgrounds" section and look at the first 'sticky'. Click on the list. It lists many locations in Canada & Alaska. You will find many that you have to be very near the office to use it, however some cover the entire park. We spent 4 months in the Yukon and Alaska and there were only a very few days I could not connect.

New England Trip

I am starting to plan a trip for next Spring to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Mass. and possibly Nova Scotia, P.E.I and New Brunswick. I would appreciate some input on not-to-miss places, especially scenic, historical sites, RV parks/campgrounds that
can accomodate a 'big rig' and great places to eat. This is the only area in the USA & Canada that I have not traveled to.

RE: Carbonite (back-up)

I was considering Carbonite, however a friend told me he had tried it and it really slowed down his computer. He said the reason was that Carbonite is encrypting and compressing information as you input it. Has anyone experienced this or know for sure it is true?

RE: Backing up an incline

If anyone thinks that excessive use of reverse will not burn up an automatic transmission, install a trany temp gauge. I have had guages on every tow vehicle I've owned since burning up my transmission twice in the first one. You will be amazed how fast the temp climbs in reverse, even with and added cooler and an aux. fan!

RE: I 20 thru Dallas TX

I live just off I-20 half way between Dallas & Ft. Worth. It is an easy drive with any vehicle. It gets a little crowded between 4PM & 6PM, but otherwise, no problem. The main thing is watch your speed as it is patroled heavily.

RE: What size Eternabond?

I purchased some 2" and some 4" a couple of years ago. I still have about 98% of the 2" and I have used almost all of the 4" on various projects. Go to this link for the best price on Eternabond;

RE: King of the Road

We have a 38', triple axle, triple slide King. Love it! Built like a tank. In '07, we spent 3 months traveling all over Alaska and the Yukon. Not a problem, not a flat, nothing....and we covered just about every road that could be traveled. We bought it in 2000 and have traveled 8-10 months a year with just minimal problems. If KOTR was still in business, I would trade for a new one.

RE: Anyone take Hwy 6 North to Salt lake city from I 70?

There is quite a bit of construction on Hwy 6 at present. As an alternate, take I-70 west to Salina and then Hwy. 50 to I-15. The drive through the San Rafael Swell area is fantastic and beautiful. With the construction, the driving time is about the same.

RE: West Monroe, LA to Branson MO

""1. US 165 from Bastrop to Dermett ARK at junction of US 65. Is this two lane or four lane and is the road good?""
It is a two lane , but a fair road.
""2. US 65 from junction of US 165 to Branson. Is this two lane or 4 lane and is the road good?""
It is a four lane, fairly new road.
""Traveling in 35 ft. fifth wheel and appreciate any info on traveling this route.""
We have been over the route several times in the rig in our signature with no problems. By the way, West Monroe is my home town. We get over there a couple of times a year.

RE: Converting to a gooseneck hitch

Do not convert to a gooseneck hitch unless the front frame structure has been 'beefed up" to handle the added torque caused by the long hitch. If in doubt, call the manufacturer and speak to someone in frame engineering. Many manufacturers will void the frame/structure warranty if a gooseneck is added. Sure, some people will tell you they are using one. They just have not got into the right situation to twist the frame and break the welds and framework. I have personally seen several failures. It ain't pretty!

RE: Second AC

As a fellow Texan, a second A/C is like insurance. Sooner or later, your A/C is going to fail. With a second unit, you can still keep your rig comfortable. Also, with a second unit, you can cool down the rig a lot quicker on real hot days. I would never own a rig with only one A/C unit. Been there, done that!

RE: RV Camping in Banff. Help needed.

First, the name is TUNNEL Mountain. It is a nice RV park. The sites are not crowded at all. Most are like pullouts along the roads, easy in, easy out.
