RE: Passport USA?????

We find Passport America really useful for overnight stops when traveling cross country, Have used them in most areas of the country. Have found some great parks and some a bit shabby, but even those make convenient and inexpensive overnight stops when we are on the move. Some of the nicer places have seasonal restrictions, but so what.
As others said, the membership paid for itself on the first trip we made after joining. Their website is the first place I look when planning out potential stops.

RE: Walmart Parking Lot Courtesy?

Just 53 miles west of Ft Stockton is nice little Passport America park in Balmorhea. Saddleback Mtn
Right off the I-10 exit. $10 for a full hook-up w/Passport Amer. Does not look like much and the restaurant is no longer in business, but it was quiet and convenient.

RE: How fast do you drive?

If the speed limit is 55 or over I usually go 62. My fuel mileage starts to drop off dramatically after that.
Same here. Although in Feb. we needed to get from Ariz to Fl for a family medical situation. Left Tucson Friday morning and arrived in Tampa Sunday evening. I did run 70 to 75 a good part of the way, esp. across TX!

RE: Repair of Gelcoat

Our local Newmar dealer has a body shop that comes in and does repairs. I have had a number of stone chips in the front cap repaired, they are invisible after it is done. Fairly reasonable price as well.

RE: Sewer donut? Or is what I already have ok...

Desert Trails RV Resort in Tucson points out on their park guidelines that sewer collars are required in Arizona. I just leave it on my elbow now, works fine.

RE: Weather Radio

We use ours ALL the time, running on batteries if we are boondocking. If we are sleeping in the fiver the weather radio is turned on. Don't recall ever having an alert on the road (have had them at home - tornado country), but we often turn it on in the evening for a weather report.
We brought home an old "business data atlas" before we retired. They are used by marketing departments and although the data is out of date it shows every small town and city in the US and what county it is in. Easy to figure which county you are in for weather reports.
Our Midland Weather Radio allows us to program for specific counties.

RE: Measuring your rig height

Actually Dog Bone's idea will work just fine. We store inside a tractor shed and I just measured from the top of the AC to one of the ceiling joists, then measured from the joist to the ground (13'4" for what it's worth).

RE: Torn...need advice

Don't know anything about the specific models, but our primary criteria are:
1 - ability to get to refrigerator with slides closed
2 - ability to get to bathroom with slides closed
3 - ability to sleep with slides closed
In our Mtn Aire the only way to get to the rear with the slides closed is to plant your butt on the island counter and slide back. No big deal.

RE: Hitch on Rear of 5th Wheel

Check with your Mfg. Our Newmar had an option of a class 1 hitch for a bike rack. I bought the factory hitch bar and installed it myself, it was a bolt-in. We have a Swagman rack with two bikes on it. It is solid as a rock and we have gone from Chicago to Tucson, AZ to Tampa, FL with no problems at all.

RE: Bicycle Towing...Help?!?!?!

Newmar has a factory option for a rear receiver. I bought the bar with the receiver from them and use this Swagman rack. Works fine.

RE: Bigfoot leveling system?

Best RV investment we ever made! Their customer service is top notch as well. Our Newmar has fairly narrow frame rails due to the duallies. It is acceptably stable with just the Bigfoot and the wheel chocks. When we are sitting for a long time I add the tripod under the pin and it is solid as a rock.
Also really nice for changing tires and packing wheel bearings - just lift all 8 tires off the ground at one time, no muss, no fuss.
As others have said above, I back in, drop the front jacks, disconnect the truck, and hit the "auto" button. That's all there is to it.

RE: tire pressure

Ah, the old "max pressure" story again. The correct inflation is determined by using a tire inflation chart.
Properly inflated tires live longer and treat your trailer better. All over inflation (ie: max sidewall pressure) does is beat the******out of your trailer.
