RE: keystone cougar fifth wheels

Go to the Keystone web site (www.keystonerv.com). It lists the trailers in order of quality.

RE: fifth wheel length

On most rigs, take the model number (which is usually interior length) and add a few feet for exterior length. That's what Keystone does.

RE: Towing in Colorado with a V10

Expect a very noticeable loss of power at high altitudes. You lose like 3% of power for each 1000' of elevation due to the air becoming thin. It's a double whammy because that's when you really need the power for the grades. Expect to use 1st gear on ocassion. Good advice. That's one advantage of the turbo diesel...it does not know it's at high altitude.

RE: Overweight

Yes, I have also noticed the same on I5 in particular. If a friend jumped out of an airplane without a parachute would you do it too? I believe that 90% of the people towing with their 3/4 ton trucks are actually unaware of what they actually weigh when going down the road. Does not make it right or wrong, just plane ignorance. And there is really no excuse for that with all the information available to people. How true.

RE: Towing Capacity Help

Hey guys, I am looking at a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 SRW MegaCab 4x4 with the 5.9L diesel in it. Truck has 94K on the odometer. I am trying to find out the towing specs on this truck. Anyone point me in a good direction? I am looking to by a 5th wheel in the next 18 months or so. Weight dry would be about 9500lb. Pin weight is about 1700lb once loaded out....I think. What can this dodge handle? I am curious on the tranny too. thanks!! Sent you a PM.

RE: Rockwood Roo 23SS & Toyota 4 Runner

Hi all. We are looking at getting a rockwood roo 23ss and pulling it with a Toyota 4 Runner. The listed dry wt of the roo is 4108lbs and the maximum towing wt of the 4 Runner is 5000lbs. Is this cutting it to close? Sent you a PM.

RE: Theoretical vs Practical load limits

My truck is "legal" up to 14,000 GVW. That is the weight I paid for on the registration. Legally, the manufacturer's ratings usually are meaningless. There are, of course, some exceptions. I have heard that one or more Canadian Provinces give the manufacturer's ratings the full force of law. I don't know if that is true. Not true. You can "register" your truck for as much as you like, the state is only concerned with revenue, they could care less about your truck. Just because you registered for 14k does not relieve you of adhering to the manufacturer's weight ratings. You can register it for 20k if you want to...only cost you more money.

RE: WILL MY TRUCK TOW IT

No way at all: Truck GW, 9,200 and RV GW 12,000 equals 21,200. The truck's GCWR is 16,000...even if you subtract a couple of thousand #s for pin weight carried in the truck, you are way over the GCWR.

RE: Question on F150 gvwr

As noted, they are all different. Decide how you want the truck equipped, go look at the truck and check the data plate on the left side.

RE: New Ford Engines

Sorry, but I don't have much confidence in Ford's diesel engines based on their history. -7.3 was fine, but needed some updating, rather than fixing it...Ford makes a new engine; -came out with 6.0, many problems but rather than fixing it...Ford makes a new engine; -came out with 6.4, many problems but rather than fixing it...Ford makes a new engine. -Now Ford's come out with the 6.7...what are the odds are it will follow the path of it's predecessors? My bet it will.

RE: Help with tow ratings

Now, having said all this....there is no way a 2500 will even come close to towing that beast. Nuff said. Agree, in fact, 18k is too much for most 3500 series duallys.

RE: 14K Alpenlite & a 2500 truck

While Alpenlite is no longer in production I still consider it one of the finest towables ever made. Now the bad news, they are very heavy. The pin weight will far exceed the capacity of your 2500HD. People do not believe me, but if you load your truck up like it normally be used for travel and go to the scales, you will very quickly find that it's net cargo carrying capacity is somewhere around 2000 pounds in 4X2 configuration. Now a 14K fiver will have a real world pin weight of around 2800+ pounds. Yep...way too much RV for a 3/4 ton. Want this big RV...get a bigger truck. Want to keep the truck...get a smaller RV.

RE: 2wheel or 4wheel for tow vechicle

Depends on where you go and where you camp. I'm on truck number seven, never had a 4wd and never needed a 4wd.

RE: Wanting to upgrade, but have questions.

Here's another formula for you: Tow capacity = GCWR minus weight of the truck when ready to tow.

RE: 07 2500 Duramax cc shrt-bed towing?

You will be well over both the GVWR and GCWR. Do the numbers.

RE: oil and fuel filter Chevy D/A

I do it myself, get the oil at Wally World and the OEM filters at any auto parts store. I like to work on my truck and I know the job will be completed correctly, so I don't factor in my time when computing cost. A gallon of Rotella is $11 at WW and an oil filter is $8 at Auto Zone...that's $35 for an oil change...plus the govmnt's cut in taxes.

RE: Is a GMC 3500 enough for a 18,500# Teton

No where near enough truck. I have a dually and would not attempt to haul an RV of that size. Do the numbers, you'll see.
Blaster Man 11/23/09 12:40pm Tow Vehicles
RE: Do I have enough truck

Just remember, the value of some of this information is exactly what you paid for it. I would not take any advice from somebody pulling a 16k trailer with a 3/4 ton truck and admits to being in excess of a ton over weight. You do the numbers yourself, then decide the answer to your question.
