RE: $19.95 phone service

We use it here in Mexico to talk to folks in the states. We hear them perfectly (sounds like they're standing next to us) but our end is pretty broken up. DH says our upload speed is too slow. But it does work.

Kino Bay Bancomer: Public Service Message

Jan 10, 2010 We were shortchanged 4000 pesos. Bancomer just now decided the ATM balanced that day, and our bank has deducted that amount from our account.
This is the "new" ATM across from the farmacia.
Just thought I'd share, in case you want to maybe use one of the other ones.

RE: Best way to get money in Mexico?

UPDATE:
Bancomer just decided their Kino Bay ATM DID balance that day, and my bank has now deducted the entire 4000 pesos we were shortchanged. We am VERY angry, refuse to use Bancomer in the future, and have demanded our bank appeal this blatant lie.

RE: Best way to get money in Mexico?

In January the Bancomer ATM in Kino shortchanged us 4000 pesos ($328), while the receipt had the entire requested amount debited. Had to telephone our bank (Skype, good signal) and they reimbursed our account TEMPORARILY. A few weeks later they said Bancomer only admitted to $280 of the $328, and they debited us $48. I suppose that's close enough...

RE: Alert. Mexican air seems to cause shrinkage of material.

If you'd get out of your RV and walk the beach, hike that hill, bike that path, and buy (eat) all that beautiful produce at the market, your clothes will fit better. It's the sunset-watching, bird-watching, feet-up-cerveza-drinking, and campfire-staring that gets you. Ask me how I know...

RE: A poll- are the roads in Mex damaging to your rigs.

"Any damage I have suffered in Mexico is 100% of my own making"
Absolutely. Self-inflicted damages solamente. Mi esposo drives too fast (an ego thing or USMC thing) and you just can't miss them all at those speeds. We have to go have a tire repaired today, in fact: dent in the rim and bubble on the sidewall discovered while washing the truck.
Got a self-inflicted broken window on the fifth wheel on "The Road" to our place outside Kino in November. Pics on my blog.

BTW, the road to WHR was graded last weekend, it's almost a super highway.

RE: biting no-see-ums

Like Mexbungalos, I'm allergic to those GD things (as well as ANYthing that bites or stings). I bring several of the Prednisone dose-packs with me when we come down for the winter, and had to start one 3 days after we got here in November. There's also a product called After-Bite in a dabber-pen-thing (that is just ammonia), which turns the itch into an OW for a while. I use that til the Prednisone kicks in. And then cortisone cream on top of that. And stay covered up or don't go out. Don't know if the farmacias have prednisone because I brought enough to not need to ask. Same with After-Bite, but I've used plain ammonia, too. The dab-pen-thing's more convenient. And 100% DEET works for me with mosquitos and biting flies.

RE: Frozen Dump Pipes or "The Finer Side of RV'ing"

Better than Robin Williams' "RV"! Very comical in hindsight, but yes, zero laughs at the time. We had an episode in Minnesota in April once, but it turned out the pipe directly above the toilet was a frozen block of effluent, remedied with that metal awning-puller-downer rod.

RE: Campfire Popcorn Popper

My DH is a microwave popcorn addict, but we have the Whirly-Pop too for when there's no electricity. I can't imagine trying to use it over a campfire. It does make terrific popcorn.

RE: Waiting at the Rainbow Bridge

Our precious Ella was put to sleep yesterday with Ron and I holding her tightly. She was only 8 years old, but had cancer according to the Mexican vet. We buried her in our yard near the casita here (near Kino Bay) with a big ironwood tree marker. And we sat at our campfire nearby and toasted her with Tecate beer until very late. Rest in peace, sweet Ella.

"As a parent, I don't think I would like that gift....sort of like a set of drums
However, as a grandparent...hmmmmm "
That's the whole point. Have already done the drums, ambulance, tambourine, etc. and now this. See, he's always referred to "breaking wind" as Barking Tree Frogs. Then he Googled them and decided he wants one. He's almost 4. I'd just like to reward that sort of initiative and enthusiasm.

Anyone going to Minnesota for Christmas?

...from somewhere warmer where I can have a live animal shipped overnight to you and you'll take it to Minnesota for my grandson for Christmas? It's a barking tree frog, and apparently you can't buy one there. I found some for sale in Florida and Ohio, and they say they overnight ship them all the time, but not to below-freezing climates.
I know this is a long shot, but I'm getting desperate.
I also have no idea in which category to post this. Feel free to move it.

RE: MN to Texas

Terrible's Lakeside Casino RV Park
Osceola Iowa, on I35 half-way between Des Moines and the southern border of Iowa. Open all year, $20 FHU. The buffet's only so-so. The pads and roads have crumbly spots.
We usually stay there our first night.

RE: Cost of Travel in Mexico...

I agree with The Texan, we don't see any appreciable savings over what we spend in the states. BUT! Life is good here, no mosquitos, no A/C needed, no heat needed, better and healthier seafood and produce, and we sure couldn't live near the sea in the states for what we can here. The energy savings is "eaten up" with Jorge's steamed clams and margaritas.
