RE: Savannah, Georgia

Another vote for Hardeeville. We stayed there for 4 months while DH did a job there. The owners are awesome. The park is beautiful and 8 miles from Savannah historic district. The only thing the park does not offer is a bath house but otherwise, a great place to stay!

RE: Tis the Season for Hot Adult Drinks - For Cold Nights

When I froze my hot buttered rum batter, I used an ice cream scoop to fill the cups as we wanted them. That way, I didn't have to thaw the whole thing at once so it lasted longer. It doesn't seem to freeze real solid.
I like hot chocolate with either Bailey's (any of the new flavors) or Kahlua!

RE: Can't drink tequila anymore

This past June, I got horribly ill after drinking half a margarita! Happened again the next time only I was much worse, my mouth had a numb feeling and I had severe pains in my chest. Turns out, I am newly allergic to Yellow Dye #5 which is in any sweet and sour mix and commonly used in margaritas. Now if I want one, I have to have it made without sweet and sour or classic margarita mix. They are actually better this way!

RE: Most "pet friendly" campgrounds

Both Sunshine Travel RV Resort in Vero Beach and Pioneer Village in Ft. Myers FL have large fenced in dog parks on site. We really enjoyed having the opportunity to let the dogs play ball and burn off some energy. We have been fulltime for 8 years and have never come across a park that was not pet friendly but these two were great!

RE: Carpet Cleaning??

I've always been a fan of Chem-Dry. They have done an awesome job and usually I pay the minimum charge (around $75). Had mine done a month ago and by the time he was packing up to leave, the bedroom which was done first, was already dry. You should be able to find one in your area.

RE: Sarasota FL.. Campgrounds Your opinion

We have stayed at Manatee off and on for almost 8 years. We really like the park. Nice sites with concrete patios. They have a large lake and 2 pools. Minutes from Walmart and a good selection of restaurants. The only think to keep in mind is to stay out of the area of 5000 numbered sites as these are right up against I-75 and you get lots of traffic noise.

RE: Pets inside Camping World?

We were in the Pooler, GA CW on Sunday and they have a sign on the door "Pets Welcome". Inside, they have a large bin with assorted dog treats. First time I have seen that but thought it was great!

RE: Best Clothes Iron?

Rowenta is the best in my opinion. I have had one for the past 10 years and love it!! If you don't subscribe to Consumer Reports, a free place to check things out is www.epinions.com. We use this website a lot before making purchases.

RE: cleaning black spots off of molding/trim

You have to be very careful and avoid any painted areas but DH uses M.E.K. (methyl ethyl ketone) which you can get at Home Depot. It is a slow process but makes the molding look like new. Afterwards, we do a good coat of wax over the top and it keeps it looking great for a long time!

RE: REALLLLY Big Mobile Suite

That looks to be an almost identical floorplan to our Teton only ours is listed as 44 1/2 ft. We had been considering looking at those when the time comes for a change. They seem to be the closest thing out there in quality. Glad to hear Teton is back!

RE: Favorite Savannah Georgia campgrounds

We just recently stayed at Bellaire Woods (Savannah Oaks) and the main issue for us was there was zero cell phone service. Plus, the traffic for DH to get to work downtown was really heavy.
We have moved to Hardeeville RV and love it! It is full hookups but does not have a bath house or pool. The sites are really large and lots of nice grass as opposed to sand/leaves. To get into Savannah takes about 10 minutes with little to no traffic.

RE: Cleaning carpet

I always used Chem Dry when I had a house and have continued to do so in 8+ years of full timing. The carpet is dry within the hour of them leaving and they always do an excellent job.
I have friends who rented machines and ended up with rust stains coming up through the carpet afterward.

Savannah South KOA

DH has a project in Savannah for the next 3-4 months. He just got there Monday and is staying at Bellaire Woods. He has no cell service, air card for internet is spotty and satellite won't come in due to the trees.
I am going Friday and looking at moving us to the KOA. Any comments on this park compared to Bellaire Woods? Sounds like they only have one space we would fit but she said there were not a lot of trees there.
Thanks!!

RE: Full-timing with pets - Question

We have been fulltime with 2 dogs and two cats for 8 years. We have never had an issue with the power going out and have spent a lot of time in Florida. We both still work so are often gone 8 hours a day. I do let the office know that we are gone a lot and ask them to call me if they have a power outage during the day.
Our litter box is also an end table between 2 chairs. We bought a wicker looking box that goes over the litterbox and has a doorway which we place facing the wall. Lifts off easily for cleaning. I got mine through Amazon.

RE: Florida as a Home Base ???

We have a forwarding service in Sarasota that we have been with for 8 years and are very happy with. Its called NATO. Website is natomail.com. They provide us both a PO Box and a street address. Sort out junk and will forward on our schedule. Excellent customer service! Its a small fee per year and then the send you a statement when your postage balance gets low.

RE: New food rule. If it burns don't eat it

Its always annoyed me that Fritos are just about the only chips that aren't available "reduced fat" or "baked". Fritos come just one way...loaded with fat and calories. But for my monthly splurge - they are sooo good!

RE: Disney area restaurant suggestions

When DH and I went to Orlando recently, we stumbled across a place called Bogard's on International Drive. Not sure how far that is from the Disney area but it was awesome!! The steaks are huge and the atmosphere is very unique and cozy. You can review it at www.bogardsrestaurant.com. We will definately go back!!

RE: The economy is affecting parks!

Wow! With all this feedback, maybe its just that particular park that has a problem. Just seems odd to me that a park is Florida is trying to solicit business for the winter?

The economy is affecting parks!

DH and I have been full-timing and working in Florida off and on for the past 7 years. Used to be we dreaded getting a new job assignment anytime in "season" knowing that it would be next to impossible to find a site.
Today, I received a call from a campground that we stayed in 2 winters ago. She was calling to find out if we were still traveling and if so, she had some great deals to offer us if we would like to stay there this season. Wow, what a turnaround! I guess good for us since we shouldn't have trouble finding sites but sure shows how much the economy has changed things.
