Re-use wheel grease seals?

I am pulling my wheels to inspect the bearings and brakes. If I don't need to replace the bearings and races, I would like to just repack and put them back together. What is the consensus on re-using grease seals if they are not damaged? Has anyone done this without problems?

RE: Ewww - sewer question

One more pointer that I don't think I saw mentioned above. When connecting you sewer hose during setup, make sure that your dump valves are closed before removing the cap from the pipe. I have seen a couple of newbies make the mistake of opening the cap with a partially open black valve. If there is anything in the tank, it can make a smelly mess.

RE: Can I pull TT with my 1/2 Ton

One more bit of advice: If you are talking to a RV dealer about this trailer, don't listen to him/her. They are just trying to make a sale and some of them will tell you anything to make that sale.

RE: What to consider regarding pulling TT

I agree with Steve's explanation except for his Explorer comparison. I think he made a typo. Except for that, his is the best explanation I have seen so far. This question is asked so much, maybe we should have it under a sticky.
Deamiss,
What is your TV? Maybe we can help you figure out what size & weight TT you can tow with it.

RE: Brake Controller

Are you talking about a connector coming out from under the dash? That is where I have seen most brake control cables. It would help if you could post a pic of what you are looking at.

RE: Ok now i'm worried, should i be?

I recommend an Equalizer hitch and a Prodigy brake control.

RE: How othen do you test the breakaway brake system?

I ALWAYS test my breakaway switch prior to starting on a trip and each day that I am towing the TT. It is on my checklist just before plugging in my TT-to-TV power cable. Just one of the things I do for peace of mind.

RE: Doors in trailer and hitch weight distributing

I would ask the owner to show me that the problem goes away when the trailer is leveled. However, I agree with the above that the doors should open & close whether the trailer is level or not. I would look VERY closely at the frame before committing.
On the hitch questions, you need to understand GVWR, GVCWR, and all associated ratings so that you know what you really need.
Good luck with your decision and happy camping.

Fuel in jerry cans?

Does anyone on here carry extra fuel (gasoline, diesel) in jerry cans in your TV? Is this safe to do in approved containers, i.e., military type jerry cans? What are the state laws regarding this?

30 amp to 50 amp dogbone adapter?

My TT requires a 30 amp power connection, but I don't have a 30A to 50A adapter. Do I really need one? I have always thought that any campground that has 50 amps at the pedestals would also have a 30 amp supply at the pedestal. True?
Thanks for your input.

RE: Walk through checklist

Besides being prepared with your own checklist, I highly recommend video-taping the walk-through. We did and we have reviewed that video about 15 times in the two years since. It is a tremendously valuable reference. Also don't be afraid to ask questions.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your decision & purchase. Happy camping.

RE: 2009 Sunset Creek 298BH?

We have a Sunset Creek 279RB and we love it. I think it is made of highest quality materials and workmanship. At almost 2 years old, we have had no problems with it. I would definitely buy it again.

RE: Driving Questions - Towing a TT for the first time

Larry,
Be sure to keep the Equilizer Hitch lubricated. If you don't you will hear noises that will curl your hair. Even when keeping it lubricated as you should, you will still get some popping and snapping as you make sharp turns. These are to be expected and you will soon come to ignore them. I normally clean and lubricate mine at least every other day when on a long trip. I also check for the correct torque per hitch instructions.
It is also very important to keep your trailer tires at the proper PSI.
Sidney
Do NOT do this. Lubricating defeats the way this hitch is designed to work.. I have one and yes it creeks when turning. Just ignor and smile as people look at you thinking somthing is about to blow up..
I keep my Equalizer hitch lubricated too and it works just fine. I have never had a problem with sway or control of the TT. :)

RE: Driving Questions - Towing a TT for the first time

It's mostly just common sense. Having driven that many different types of vehicles, you will have no problem at all. There are many people on the road towing large TTs who have never driven anything but a sedan before towing their TT off the dealer's lot. Scary, huh?

RE: Lexan "storm" door -- what would you do differently??

I have not done this mod, so I can't advise on that aspect. I have cut Lexan/polycarbonate with a table saw and drilled it with a drill press. If you have access to a table saw, that is your best bet. If you drill it near the edge, make sure your drill bit is sharp and drill slowly. I would use a brad point bit. As for cutting rounded corners, you need a good jigsaw or bandsaw with a fine toothed blade and take your time. As posted above, plexiglass is too brittle for this.

RE: Propane -- Doesn't take much to make me happy!!

Most U-Haul dealers have propane reasonably priced with no charges except the per gallon rate for what is needed to fill the tank.

RE: would this work?

It sounds like it's worth a try, but I am skeptical. I doubt the mechanical advantage of the jack is enough so that the torque supplied by the drill driver is enough to raise a 1000# tongue. So I guess it would depend on the weight of the tongue. It might work to lower the tongue. I know on my TT (see my sig) it would not work as manually raising the tongue on mine was really a lot of work.
Good luck and happy camping.

Can water come into TT when slide is pulled in?

Has anyone ever pulled water into their trailer when bringing in the slideout? I know this can happen if the slide seal is damaged, so I check it frequently. But can this happen with a good seal?

RE: Tool For Removing Leaves and Debris On Slide Top

I use a water hose with a nozzle that give me good high pressure stream. It is not enough pressure to cause damage, just blast the leaves and debris away.
A related question: Has anyone ever pulled water into their trailer when bringing in the slideout?
