What is your favorite state park in Indiana to camp in? I'm looking for your recommendations. We are looking for a vacation spot for 3 families to meet. Ages range from 7 to 73 and everyone has a TT or MH of at least 30', so fairly large sites are needed. We have been looking at Spring Hill, Brown County, Lincoln, Indiana Dunes, and Turkey Run. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Brookville (actually a state recreational area) has a nice campground. Pokagon, Mounds, and Prophetstown recreation area are popular. Have a good trip.

Indiana Dunes is very nice since they remodeled a couple years back. Also Lake Potaka is real nice has large sites it is near French Lick IN. Potato Creek just south of South Bend is our favorite very large sites. If you choose Turkey Run it is nice also some sites are small and in the woods others are out in the open and nice sizes. Brown county can be tricky on the Ridge sections. Pogagon near the IN OH border is also nice. Actually most of ours are very nice.
Go to Indiana Dept of Natural Resources and go to the camping section and you can get pictures and maps of all the campgrounds along with discriptions of the sites. Hope you enjoy your stay in Indiana.

If you are not a resident of Indiana, expect to pay a daily user fee in addition to the campground fee. In addition to that, if you use diesel fuel be aware that you cannot pull where the trucks do as they are tax exempt. You must pull your entire rig out front and try to angle your unit in between the cars to fuel.

Because it seems Indiana doesn't want tourists, we boycott them.

When we called Central Indiana home Summit Lake state Park and Mississinewa Lake's, Miami State Recreation Area were our favorites. Both have large sites but only Miami SRA has full hookups. Summit Lake is known for it's largemouth bass fishing and Mississinewa Lake is known for it's smallmouth bass fishing. Both have playgrounds for kids and bath houses. Neither is close to any major cities, but small towns of under 20,000 are within 15-20 miles.

Mounds SRA @ Brookville has nice full hook up sites, there wuld be a good walk to the beach though. Paymetown @ Monroe Lake is on the water w/ a beach but no full hook ups. Charlestown St Park on the OH River is rarely full, has full hook ups and the sites should accommodate your group easily, but there is no beach nor pool. McCormicks Creek St Park and Lieber SRA have pools but no FHU's. What amenities are you seeking? PM me and maybe I can advise better.

I highly recommend Buffalo Ridge campground in Brown County state park. Lots to do outside of the campground. There is some mis-information from a previous post. You pay to enter the State park then you pay for camping. When you check in at the campground you get a tag to hang on your mirror that allows you to come and go in and out of the State Park as you wish without having to pay each time.

And thank you for boycotting our state parks - it is hard enough to get reservations as it is. I wish some more people would boycott. It is hard to get reservations at Brookville lake because of all the people from Ohio.

We spend a couple months each summer traveling IN to visit family. Unless this is something new, we always use the truck pumps to fill the mh with diesel. Posted prices are the tax exempt price so there is always a $0.05-$0.06 upcharge for private vehicles but no hassle about using the high speed truck pumps.

Turkey Run, hands down. It's very popular, so reservations will be needed EARLY. The hiking trails are superb (bring extra shoes, though, as feet can get wet and/or muddy in spots), there are rental canoes & tubes for Sugar Creek, which is a gas, and there are lots of covered bridges in the area to drive around & see. This park has a lodge, so if there are non-campers in your group, they could stay in a room or cabin (caveat: reservations in summer may be needed for this 2 YEARS in advance!!) Nice buffet dinner, at least on weekends. The park has a swimming pool (extra fee, IIRC) as well, and rental bikes - but bring your own, it's a good place for them. The campground has both open and wooded sites, and is big & spread out. Restrooms & showers are pretty basic, but available. Electric hookups (20/30 amps) only; many sites will require an extension cord or two to reach the pole.

The entry fee only applies one time if you're staying in the park. Your CG receipt (or room key for those staying at the lodge) is your re-entry ticket for the rest of your stay. As out-of-staters, we haven't found the initial fee excessive. We figure in-staters (who also pay an entry fee, just a lower one) pay income taxes which help support their own SPs, so we don't mind pitching in a little extra to keep the parks going.
