Way back in my youth, I was about to sign a lease when I was informed I had to pay $20 extra A MONTH for my cat. I was flaggergasted. A month? A cleaning deposit I understand. A final walk through to access damage, I understand. But $20 A MONTH rent? Well, $20 was like a $1000 to me so I had to find another apartment.

Back to the original point....
I have been charged twice for my cat....well, one time, when I complained, the person ended up not charging me because SHE couldnt figure out why they would charge for a cat either.
BUT, at one state park when asked if we had pets and we said "one cat"- we were required to produce a current Rabies certificate. Luckily I had it handy.

There are dogs that have been taught to relieve themselves in a box (city dogs in high-rises). Should these dogs be charged the same as dogs that relieve themselves outside? There are people who let their cats out of their rigs/homes or walk their cats. Should these cats be exempt from additional charges just like inside cats? How does a park owner know if the pets will be kept inside 100% of the time?

Pets (dogs, cats, birds, snakes, etc) can cause personal injury while outside or inside (park guests that you invite into your rig). How is a park owner to know which pet is a liability risk while on their premises and which one is not?

Simple rules are much easier to enforce equally than complex rules with exceptions.

Mark

I think the likelihood of a dog being litter box trained is exponentially less than a cat owner that would let their cat wander to do their "duty". Cats don't attack people unless they are rabid either.Cats also bury their waste, unlike dogs. Cats don't bark and disturb the neighbors like dogs. Cats and dogs are different, so applying the same rules would be inaccurate and so,unfair. I have never seen a cat owner let their animal out to run unattended since I started fulltiming in 1996. Lots of dog owners have told me "MY dog is under voice control, he doesn't need a leash". I've been bitten twice by unattended, unleashed dogs. I carry a nightstick these days, won't happen again.

Actually dog litter boxes are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among those with smaller dogs. Also a percentage of people with small dogs use pee pads. The difference between cats and dogs is that with dogs, the indoor systems are a convenience for when the weather is bad or the humans are not available/don't want to take them out. This is quite different from cats, which particularly when traveling, mostly stay inside and the few who go out do so not so much to relieve themselves as to see the sights and socialize.

I went to a park with a "two pet" limit one time, and asked them if my cats and rabbits counted (two of each at the time, plus the two dogs. The reply was, well the rabbits don't, but you walk the cats outside, right? Um... no. Oh well, then they didn't count. They just assumed I did because there's a fulltimer that stays there on and off and walks their cat regularly. Probably they have no idea how many people stay there with cats, since nobody sees them or hears them.

Cats DO attack people even when they are not sick.
(example: House arrest for attack cat)

Do you invite others into your rig? If so, you have exposed the park owner to liability from your cat's actions while on their premises (in your rig).

A cat burying their scat is no different than a dog relieving itself in the bushes. Where it is left is irrelevant; it was left on the property.

I think cat owners, just like ALL dog owners, need to come to grips with the fact that the rules DO apply to them and their pets (not just everyone else). A cat is a pet; if there are pet rules they apply to cats just like other pets. If the park owner/management chooses not to apply their rules to inside cats that is their choice; it is not the choice of park guests.

I've seen a lot more stray cats in RV parks than stray dogs... and a lot of cats are just let out to do their business. I don't think I've seen more than one or two cats in my life on a leash. Makes me wonder who is picking up the stinky stuff. Yes, I do realize some cats are only kept inside, but many aren't. JMHO...

Apparently you have never been a cat owner. Cats are superior to dogs and humans! Rules do not apply.......

Actually, we now own 3 cats; they came with our new farm.

If cats are superior to dogs why do our 3 need a dog to help with the rodent population here?

I have no problem with rules beign applied to cats. Since you asked, yes, others come into my rig and the cats hide. If dogs WOULD relieve themselves in the bushes, not on other's campsites, but they aren't choosey.I've never had to shovel cat poop off my campsite, can't say the same for dogs. My cats stay indoors. Unless on a leash I think cats should be kept indoors. For that matter, I have never in 54 years seen a cat take a dump in the outdoors-they tend to hide. Buried out of the way stuff is a lot different than the steaming pile next to my picnic table. Sorry you don't see the difference.
