We are heading to Myrtle Beach the end of March. We are leaving from Port Stanley Ontario. Someone suggested to cross at Buffalo and take I90 to Batavia - head south to catch 86 to Corning and then 15 all the way down. Has anyone taken this route? Please comment on weather that time of year or earlier, mountains inclines and campgrounds that might be open. We are pulling a 30 foot Laredo 5th wheel.

Hi Folks,

Route that we've used over the years...
QEW to Peace bridge Buffalo
I90 west to Erie,
I79 south to hwy 19 Sutton to Beckley
I77 south to I77S and I81N to I77S

Sorry I'm on the road not home right now to fill in the southern half of the route. However we skirt Greensboro as we cut across from I77 to MB. Lakewood to the south has been our favourite CG.

I have never gone from Ontario to Myrtle Beach however it looks to me like going to Buffalo would be out of the way the quickest Route (not knowing the roads would be 401 to detroit 75s to 80E to I77S and if you wnat into 40 to 95 to Myrtle or you could take sevral diffrent routes from 77 that are more direct but not all highway.
Several great RV Parks in Myrtle The State Park is nice and Lakewood and Oceanlakes are Great but more money then the state park but great if you have children. we do go to Myrtle often from Atlanta and stay at either Ocean Lakes and Lakewood as we usually do it last minuete and they are easy to get reservations pretty much anytime.

We live in Jamestown, NY and have gone to Myrtle Beach so many times I can't count them. We found that I90 to I79S to Rt.19 to I77 is the easiest way. Then we take Rt.52 to Winston Salem, NC to I40E to 220.

I am still anxious to hear if anyone knows about the Highway 15 route. It seems more direct to me. You go east and then south rather than going west from Buffalo. How far south before you get to open campgrounds in March?

We tried the Rt. 15 route several years ago when we went to Washington, DC. Too many small towns and narrow roads as I recall; however maybe Rt. 15 has improved.

The route I suggested in a previous post is the one we're going to try on our next trip to MB. Here it is:

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE TO MYRTLE BEACH Here's how we've done it from Toronto for 23 years..... • I79 south to Exit 57 onto Rt. 19 at Sutton, WVa • Rt. 19 to Beckley, WVa and I77 • I77 south past Charlotte to Exit 34 onto Rt. 34 at Ridgeway • Rt. 34 to Lugoff and turn right at the main intersection and go south two miles to I20 east to Florence, SC • I20 ends at Palmetto St. in Florence • Turn left on Palmetto and follow it east past the airport until it becomes 76 • 76 swings right and becomes 576 which takes you to Hwy. 501 • Take hwy. 501 to the new Hwy. 22 and avoid a lot of lights and traffic • Follow Hwy. 22 into Myrtle Beach. • We always stay in Charlotte on the way down which is 12 hours from Toronto, leaving us 3.5 to 4 hours to Myrtle Beach Next time we go to MB, we're going to try this route. I think I'd rather stay on I-77 instead of heading east at I-74/US 52 like so many routing instructions state. (This isn't my own idea. I copied it from an internet poster some time ago, and I really like it, although we haven't used it yet).

UPON EDIT: For some reason, the original link didn't work. Sorry.

I went from Frederick, MD to Hamilton, Ontario by way of Rt 15 in July. It has been improved through upper PA with the completion of the bypass from the NY/PA border down to around Marsfield. There was still construction beyond there down to Williamsport, PA. From there with a few exceptions towns are a plenty all the way through Virginia. If you really want to take 15 I suggest you only take it to Frederick, MD. From there take I-270 south to I-495(Capital beltway towards Virginia) to I-95 south. Plan to hit 495 around mid-day (10AM to 2PM)or at night (after 8PM) the traffic should be moving well. This would be a much straighter shot as well as much faster.
