I agree with you to a point.
I hate it when I ask a serious technical question, and someone answers with a sarcastic remark that they think is a joke.
It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
I also don't like it when they tell me to search the archives, that the question might have been answered before.

Thankfully most of the mods delete thse type of answers. A couple of forums mods don't do as well.
Some mentioned different opinion which is fine up to a point. What mulebarn is talking about is part is comments like your wrong or only a idiot or to stupid to understand or your post is /etc. These type responces come from hidding behind the keyboard (keyboard commando or keyboard bullies). It says a lot about the mod/mods also for allowing personell attacks which is supposed to be against forum rules. As mulebarn says they don't do that in a face to face public reply.

x2
Most PMs I get are nice and just asking for more details that might be off topic or what I wrote was not clear.
I'd be careful with that if I were you...I actually did that awhile back, as I pretty much felt threatened by the PM I received. Guess what...I was chastised by members of this forum, even moderators, for airing a personal message. I was told it was private...didn't matter that I was being, what I felt was threatened...this is why I don't respond much on this forum. Strangely they made ME out to be the bad "guy"...go figure!!

You probably would have been best to block the sender, then send a copy of the message to the "moderator", only. He can do something about it, everyone else can only be entertained by the exchange.

I don't recall ever getting a negative PM.
I have gotten some rude responses on the actual threads. Like "too lazy to do your own research?" I thought that was what I was doing. Seeking out other opinions and info!!
I do love this forum though. Top notch folks and a wealth of info here!!

This forum is tame compared to newsgroups. I used to participate in rec.outdoors.rv-travel and the cliche would attack anyone and everyone. If a newbie came on and asked a question that had been asked before, he was derided for not doing a search. During elections, it was really terrible the dog fights over politics. Of course that newsgroup is not moderated and that explains a lot of the behavior. That and the anonymity afforded by the Internet. I just bless the moderators on this group for the job they do. They appear to provide an even balance of free speech and trying to avoid the mayhem that is found on other Internet forums.
