I have got my self in a little bind. I missed the closing of my local dumpsights for the season. Calling around I am struggling to find a campground close to dump at. To compound matters I dont have a lot of interest in towing very far now. It is time for a new tranny in the old truck. That is a winter project.
Anyway my black and grey tank are about 1/3 full. Anyone have luck pouring a bunch of RV antifreeze down into them and let them sit the winter. If so How much.
Thanks

You have two options. 1) Get a 5 gal bucket, slowly open valve, when nearly full close valve and go dump it in your house toilet. 2) Dump as much RV antifreeze into the tanks as possible.

I have had our black tank partially full a couple times through the winter without problems and it gets cold here (normally will see -40 for a couple days but mostly -25 to -30, Coldest I've ever seen was one morning up in Saskatoon where it dropped to -61 but that was many years ago and did not have the motorhome at that time and didn't got to work as it was too cold to go anywhere.) I put in a half a bottle of antifreeze and it has never froze solid or broken anything.

I had a couple of gallons in the BT and did the bucket routine for emptying it.

Antifreeze probably won't mix with the contents on it's own. If it were mine, I'd find a way to dump it. You may find a mobile home park that will let you dump for a fee.
Think about the worst case results if you make the wrong decision.

I would try to find an open field or some farmer that would let you dump the gray water tank. The black tank most likely will not freeze, dump some Rid-X in it and let it compost. If you know anyone with a sewer clean out, you could dump them both if it is accessable.

Call a septic tank pump out company they will send out a honey wagon.
RV antifreeze recommends you do not dilute.
I would not take a chance tanks are VERY expensive to R&R.

Call around to the various communities within a reasonable distance and see if any have a dump station. I have a municiplal dump station about 2.5 miles from home; free for residents and open year round.

People I know that winter camp all the time, tell my they use about a qt of automotive antifreeze… I don’t think I would do that or that it is a good idea… but if I were stuck somewhere without other choices I would…
Get or borrow a totter and haul it in the back of the truck somewhere…
Get a sewer solution and pump it in the house toilet…
Call septic tank cleaning company or a job john company to come and pump it out…
Call you local sewer company to see if they have a dump site…

FWIW, a local RV tech told me that water in the holding tanks is not a problem because of expansion room. He said it's only the lines, pump, etc. that are vulnerable.
Nevertheless, I always put extra RV antifreeze into the holding tanks in case of residual water, which there is almost always likely to be. It might take quite a bit to take care of 1/3 full tanks, but it would be worth it IF you are unable to empty the tanks yourself. (I've used the bucket-to-house method on more than one occasion. Just don't fill that bucket too full! )
