Had a beginners accadent with the motorhome, damaged the roof. I was very carefull to cover the area until I could get it to the RV shop for a new roof (covered by insurance, thank goodness). No water damage when I left it at the RV shop. The RV has been sitting at the shop for 3 weeks now and I have no idea if they have protected the roof area. When I funally pick up the motorhome (who knows when) I will inspect the interior before signing over the check. What should I be looking for? I assume it would take a while (months to years) for rot to show up. Staining would be obvious. is there anything else I can look, feel, smell for to show water damage.
Thanks for the info.

I would say any staining, puffiness or soft spots, or bubbling would be tell tale signs. I would just look it over well and if anything looks different or suspect, check it out further. Find out if the shop's work is warranteed. Good luck!

The old-timer who oversees all the repair work at my RV Service place told me that the quickest way to find water damage is to check all 4 corners of the RV for dampness, bubbling, or stains. He said that's where any water damage would show up first. This guy is in his 80's and has been working on trailers since the 50's, so I tend to trust what he tells me...

I've seen water damage everywhere in RV's, sometimes it's at the ends and sonetimes not. It can show up first around a vent, or skylight and never show at the ends, same with rot in the flooring. There is no specific place it's more likely to show up than another.

We just had a flood in our house and the insurance contractor came around with a dampness detector. If your RV shop doesn't have one, you could ask your insurance company (house or RV) for the name of a contractor with one.
They might even be rentable!

If they have had it for awhile and it has rained, you probably have some damage. that said, did they cover it ??, or did you cover it ??. Hope it comes out okay for you..
