Some of you live to complain. It seems that a majority of us are happy with our units because if it was as bad as some say the industry would have collapsed years ago. Then there is the group that accuse all dealers of being crooks. The fact is the dealers would have all gone broke long before the recession if they sold at cost or less.

I do not have any association with any business in the RV industry. We do however live fulltime, and have for 4 1/2 years in a 2005 fiver that we bought new. We had a few issues in the first 5 months which were taken care of by the manufacturer. The 5er is in great shape, no issues and nothing is falling apart.

By the way some of you complain about cheap chinese componenets in our rvs. Please let me know what major components are made in China.

When I read these stories my heart goes out to those folks who have been having recurring problems with their RV's. A fair amount of money is spent for these units and the purchaser has every right to expect reasonable usage from it. I guess I'm one of the "fortunate" ones who has had practically zero issues with his fiver. I guess a lot depends on the manufacturer's attention to quality control and the integrity of the workers themselves.

I do concur that a certain portion of the problem is due to the poor quality of items from China that are utilized. The only (minor) problems I've had were with some of the electrical switches for the exhaust fans, no doubt made in China. The faucets seem to be Chinese quality as well, but these are easily replaceable with higher quality residential ones.

Having inspected older fifth wheels and trailers over the past few years it seems that quality has taken a beating. If this trend were to continue I fear most RV's would become virtually unusable, particularly for fulltimers.

And where do you think the higher quality residential ones are made?
If Walmart were to take all Chinese manufactured items out of their stores it would be almost empty. Yet Walmart keeps growing and growing. With the "blame it on the Chinese quality mentality"it's no wonder the economy is where it is today. Time everyone actually got paid for actual worth of what they produced. So easy to put the blame on everyone else.

Keep in mind that even if the replacement faucets are from China (perhaps purchased from Home Depot or Lowes, not necessarily Walmart) they are no doubt made of metal, not plastic. The faucets in my previous 1990 motorhome never broke or gave any trouble during 17 years of fulltime use. I currently have one broken handle out of four and have to treat the remaining ones very carefully to prevent breakage. Remember, it's only the quality of a few switches and the faucets I'm concerned with. The rest of my fiver is pretty solid and no doubt will hold up well during fulltime use. Those few substandard parts I wrote about are easily replaceable with higher quality parts. So, I'm not really complaining but merely making an observation. Having lived in various RV's for the past 22 years I can speak from experience.
