I have a 1989 Layton Celebrity. Its in great condition but I'm concerned that I have the original regulator and dial. I have a silver knob with an arrow on it at the regulator. I recently took a tank off to be refilled and noticed gas coming out of the detached pigtail. I looked at the arrow and it was pointing toward the full tank. I turned it back and forth but the gas continued to run out of the detached pigtail. Is the switch bad or is the regulator bad or both. How do I run on one tank or can I? Boondocking 90% of the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since the unit is 20 years old, I'd be suspect of bad valve. I'd contact a LP shop about a complete preassure test of system, and replacement of valve, regulator and rubber hoses.

I also suggest replacement of all the old stuff with new.

Thanks , Thats what I thought. A lot of people assured me I could do it myself but I'm a little scared of this gas thing.

Replacing the entire 2 stage regulator with auto switching will run only about $50.00 and is an easy fix. Really not worth repairing a single part like the valve. IN the mean time you can run a single tank by just turning on only one valve at a time.

Is the LP really leaking out or do you just can smell it??? The smell is strong and when standing right there the odor will come out of the disconnected hose…

With one bottle hooked up, I opened it and I felt the pressure coming out on the disconected hose.

Then it time to replace the regulator … about $35 for a new one and they are easy to change…
