I just read a story that the Nook (digital reader) has already sold out on pre-orders. If you want one for Christmas all you can get is a voucher. They say that the next date they will be available is January 4th. No mention on how many have sold so far.

Me too. Sometimes I like to read a book by the pool or in the bathtub. That would be expensive is someone jumped in and splashed my Nook book. Plus I can read a real book longer than one of the electronic ones since I can't stay on the computer for long periods of time. And what about the bright sun? It would make it impossible to read unless you moved. Or your hands are greasy from sunscreen and it slips out of your hand and onto the concrete? Expensive toy.

If you think those are genuine concerns, you've obviously never seen a Kindle, Sony, Nook, or any other current technology ebook reader.

They make water resistant cases for the Kindle(raincoat) and similar ebook readers.

The Nook is at the top of my wish list but with past experience I never buy the new untested version. Better to wait for version 2.0
With this quick sellout, that should be early in the new year. Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring me one.

I agree Dave,
It's like Texting on a phone, wouldn't it be easier to call another with a bush of the send button, or sit there and type out a message.
and they will also become easy targets for theft. my phone is enugh to worry about now I have to worry about a ebook reader too.

Hard to get excited. I can't see any of this things lasting as long as my books have. Some of them are 50-60 years old and still work just fine.
I've been in technology for 40+ years and there's millions, if not billions of gadgets that have become useless after just a few years.

I don't see these as a simple book.
It can be a complete portable library of reference material.
It will hold current newspapers, fix-it books, encyclopedias etc.. all in your hand.
I have it now in my Acer Netbook
