Jacking the frame may be fine if everything is straight and level. But on the side of the road, very seldom straight and level. So jacking the frame can easily kick out a jack because of the frame height and needed jack extension. I use a "Trailsaver" under the good wheel. If you cannot put the wheels on something similar, jack under the spring plate. Keep the jack as short as possible.

What about this? Trailer Aid This is what we keep in our fiver and horse trailer. Has worked great so far, lightweight. We've never had a flat tire, but use them all the time for taking tires off for various reasons.

I carry a 4" x 4" x 12" block of wood that can be placed between the axle and frame to get home after a spring or shackle breaks....

Do you have to strap it in place, or what? Thanks.

When I took my rig into Discount tire to swap out my rims,I took documentation from lippert as to how to change the tires by lifting the frame just past where the springs attatch to the frame. They told me they have never had anyonee bring in the document from lippert before , and told me they may have been doing it wrong all this time. I also brought my own 12 ton jack for their own jacks were not sufficient to do the job. So I jacked the trailer up for them and they took the tires off and swapped rims and ballanced my tires and put them back on. Then we went to the other side and did the same thing.
