I called a couple of Winnebago dealers about the batteries. They said the compartment is designed for the group 24's. They aren't designed for the added 30lbs. the batteries in series vs parallel or the added capacity for a 45 amp converter/charger. Should have a 55 or 60 amp.

Hi DAS26miles,

Then have the bracing for the compartment upgraded.

I also had the Interstate SRM24s in mine. They only lasted about 2 1/2 years. I can't fit Group 27 or the GC batteries in mine either. I am trying the Deka deep cycle Group 24s this time. They had a higher amp hour rating and were cheaper than Interstates also. FWIW the guy at the Deka plant said to only expect 3-4 years from anything other that the GC batteries in an RV.

If I can get the T-105's to fit and I can add some bolts to the plastic battery compartment housing, what about the fact I am using a 45 amp converter/charger??

Hi DAS26miles,

What make and model of converter? I have a PD9140A which charges my 875 amp-hours of batteries. 13.6 VDC, 40 Amps. I do have a solar system as well.

I'd suggest more than just bolts if the whole battery compartment is plastic. I had a piece of plywood put in the bottom and a brace welded to the frame which passes under the compartment.

The last thing you want is to hit a bump and see the batteries spilling out onto the highway.

pianotuna- I have the Intelli 45amp with the charge wizard. With a closer look at the compartment with the batteries out, I don't know how it handled the current 2 group 24's. There are 3 or 4 thin bolts coming thru the floor above and there a small thin washers and small nuts. The bolts look like maybe 3/16". I would think they would use something like 3/8" bolts with at least a 1 1/2" washer. One didn't even have a washer and the nut pulled thru the plastic. I managed to get the nut off and put on a large washer. It's like a can of worms.

Hi DAS26miles,

You must be very glad that you looked!

I suggest you start a thread on battery compartment upgrades--and quote your make and model of RV--there must be many folks driving around with plastic boxes nearly ready to fail. It is scandalous imho.

I looked at the compartment today and I think it will hold the T-105's. I will add a support on the outside around the compartment and attach it to the frame.
I checked the batteries with a volt meter and one was 12.8v and the other was 12.3. I used a hydrometer and found a totally dead or shorted cell in second battery. I dug up the receipt and found that the batteries were bought in July of 08, 16 months ago. CW said I would need to take it to an Interstate Battery center for warranty. I called one and they said it would cost $52.80. But then I would have a new one and one 16 months old. Can't do that.
So I am going over today to see if the T-105's will work.
