I would do as suggested, check the axles and if there's some wiggle room increase the load rating on the tires to match the axles. Then leave the stickers alone and you'll be good with the CHP with your section 41 endorsement.

Sorry to hear about this. Reminds me a lot of what W/W did after the lawsuit. I had a LE 3105 that weighed in around 10,500 dry, they stickered it initially at 9,800 I think it was, but afte the lawsuit, they sent me a "corrected" sticker showing 8,600 lbs dry. Yeah right!
I'd definitely keep the original posted stickers on it and roll with your Restr 41 endorsement (under 15k gvwr in Cali) as long as you own it. As you said, just file away these updated stickers.

I would make sure these are 7k axles they put on as advertised.
This is specifically why I didn't buy this coach (great rig of course) and decided to go with the Cyclone as they had the dual 7k axles at the time I was buying (your 2010 model with the 7k's wasn't out yet), and my E rated tires are listed at 3,520, so contrary to what was said earlier, you technically don't need G rated tires to get 7k+ worth of load capacity.
Heartland is a bit more simple minded when calculating/listing the gvwr compared to Keystone....don't know why they make it so complicated. At least they got away from the dual 6k axles finally...

I contacted customer rep at Keystone, who could not explain the rating changes, but insisted that the new stickers must be correct since they're the "corrected" stickers. I'm ready to let this issue rest, and file the new stickers unless it becomes beneficial for me to display them. But it will be hard to take a manufacturer's rating seriously in the future. My thanks to all who commented.

I came within inches of buying the Road Warrior version of the Cyclone 3010. Nice units for sure. I liked how Heartland did not include the pin in the GVWR. I started doing the math for me and came to the conclusion that 3200 lbs. of cargo capacity was fine for my use. Its interesting I was looking at Michelin XPS ribs and they are only 3040 lbs max for Load E. Then looked at some others and all the LT's are only 3040. Probably going to use Denmans.

I still don't understand this. I am considering purchasing a used Keystone Fuzion 302, and from I can read on the weight sticker it has a GVWR of 14,365 and two 6,000 axles.

Simple math on the axles tells me 6,000 + 6,000 = 12,000. If the hitch weight is 2,365 than that adds up. Why did they change to 7,000 axles in 2010? Were they having axle issues?

If you buy that 302, as soon as you hook it up and start towing it, you'll wonder why they ever even put dual 6k's on it. JMO though!
I, along with a lot of other people interested in these 302's back in '09 were lured into the Cyclone's with dual 7k's for obvious reasons. That just a lot of length and weight on a tandem axle toy hauler.
For the record, I've never heard of axle issues of these 302's on this forum, but I just flat out prefer overbuilt (or just MORE capable) any day of the week.

So to answer your question, I think they just realized that along with their past issues with Carlisle tires being way under snuff, seeing other companies beef up to larger axles, and not wanting to lose market share, they decided to move to dual 7k's. Smart thing to do.
I love these trailers, really like the 302's as well.
Coming from a past 3 axle W/W 5'ver, I totally prefer a solid built 2 axle trailer over a 3 axle. My $.02

Manke,
This will be my first fifth wheel, and I prefer the two axles instead of three because of the maneuverability. We looked at the Cyclone 3010, but prefer the 302 because the booth dinette is larger (at the expense of the private bathroom). However, we think we will spend much more time in the booth than the bathroom.

Back to the axles: I can save close to $10k by buying the 2009. I wonder what it would cost in parts to upgrade to the 7k axles. I was already planning on adding the Dexter EZ-Ride.

Alex

BTW - How do you like your 3010? Any real issues?

Hey Alex,

I didn't know the booth dinette was smaller in the 3010 vs. the 302. Just curious, do you know exactly how much longer the couch/seating area is?
Don't let the stupid kidney bean table they put in the 3010 steer you, I swapped out a much better/larger table from a larger model Cyclone when we bought it. It's rectangular in shape, and you can feed 4-6 people MUCH more comfortably than the original kidney bean table. Can't remember what the 302 was like.
My wife and I were totally set on the 302 until a thread started on this forum back in May about these two trailers, and we ended up going with the Cyclone.
I wouldn't want any other toy hauler design. I love these two rigs. If I didn't have a Cyclone, I'd have that 302.
We've had some hiccups to work through, but HL has really stood behind their product, taken care of us, and like everyone else says, on any brand, you're typically going to have to work through the initial bugs of a new rig.
Have the Dexter E-Z flex kit, just got it on a few weeks back, but it's sick, for sure do that as your first mod.

10k is a lot of $. I would in fact look at the cost to swap out, but before actually doing that and before I bought it, I'd make damn sure the tires are E rated, NOT Carlisle, and find out the weight ratings of the wheels and tires.

Another thing I like about the Cyclone compared to said '09 302, is my gvwr is just 14k flat. They don't take the pin weight into consideration with the gvwr. This is huge in Cali. You'll need a CDL I believe if you're towing a 5'ver OVER 15k gvwr. Anything at or below 15k gvwr you just need a restriction 41 endorsement. I'd be really curious what the listed gvwr is of the new 2010 302's with the dual 7k's, do you know?

You have to ask yourself how much and what are you going to load on a frequent basis. 10k savings is a lot, and if you really think you'll be at or under, say 13k loaded going down the road at most times, then I probably wouldn't worry about it, take the 10k savings and buy the '09.
You'd have a real strong argument to grind them down in price for that '09, I would work them to no end, citing an inferior design and see how low they will go.
I know I spent a bit more for the Cyclone, but just wanted the peace of mind having a more seemingly capable and solid trailer. We liked everything in one solid bathroom, as when we have friends and family staying with us, they can be in the shower/bath and not jeopardizing the entire master bedroom and bath. Liked the fit and finish of the HL product just a little more, and the owners forum was a real selling point as well. But shoot, I kinda wish I would have waited a bit longer as now they have the HD edition 3010 with the gray/black/orange/white graphics and black trim windows....looks like nothing else on the road! Oh well....

Sorry for the rant, let me know if you have any other questions...

CycloneVSFuzionThread

Here is the link I was referring to. There was another one as well, but this one sealed the deal for me. PM'd with a few of the owners of the Cyclone's at the time and it was very helpful.
