If I use a Netgear encripted wireless router, do i also need to turn on my pc security firewall.... seems like I remember that a secured wireless router protects you better than a software firewall like McAffee or Windows

A router will not prevent virus's from getting in through email, nasty websites, etc.
BTW- Encryption on the router is actually for the Wifi portion of the router, and encrypts the data packets sent across the RF (WiFi) link. THAT keeps WiFi hackers (Neighbors, usually 6th graders ) from either seeing your data or getting into your router via WiFi.

What SCVJeff said. I have a Netgear wireless with encription, just keeps the neighbors from using my cable modem Internet connection. Still need the firewall and AV.

BTW- For those that aren't aware, Microsoft is now offering auto-updating Anti-Virus software for free.
