We are down to one female Min Pin (spayed) since our older male Min Pin passed away awile back. By accident my wife stumbled across a Maltese/Min Pin mix puppy that is a male. Any experience with Maltese such as disposition, long hair, jumping on beds, going up and down steps, and of course camping in a fifth wheel.

Thank you for the input,Mark

Maltese are lap dogs. They are great old lady's lap warmers. The long hair requires surpisingly little grooming, but no grooming will result in matts. Disposition varies throughout the breed, but generally are easy going and realatively quiet dogs. If you are a small dog fan, they are not a bad choice. Of course, proper puppy socialization will have dramatic input upon the adult dog.

I have had Maltese since 1982 and absoutely love the breed. They are loyal, great for traveling and wonderful companions. Normally, I keep mine in a puppy cut, which is much easier to care for, but they do still require frequent combing and brushing.

I have a friend that has a min pin and can only imagine the two breeds together

Below is a website for Maltese, if you would like to research them.

We have a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, primary breed being Maltese. Tootsie was my mom's dog for a short time before she passed away and now we get to cherish her. She's a great little dog. Very sweet, a bit of an alpha wannabe but she has learned her place within our pack.

We adopted her from a rescue group that I volunteer with sometimes. She had a rough start and almost died trying to give birth to a litter of puppies after she was apparently bred during her first heat cycle. She was near death and had gone septic from a pup being stuck in her birth canal when her owner and I use that term loosely took to the animal ER and dropped her off saying "Do whatever you want with her, the stupid dog can't even have puppies right." Thankfully they contacted Animal Aid and they agreed to help with the costs to save her life. I tell you this because I am going to say that Tootsie was extremely challenging to house train. Perhaps due in large part to her physical problems after her body was put through such a horrific shock. She has been prone to UTI's as well (from the stress on her system & bladder I'm sure) but a prescription diet has helped with those. I understand some Maltese are a bit hard to house train so that may mean that you will want to pack along a good deal of patience during that process if you are getting a puppy.

Tootsie can also be pretty vocal. It took a while before she understood what "Shhhh" meant but she responds appropriately and gets quiet.

I groom our dogs (we also have two Lhasa Apsos) myself most of the time, taking them to the groomer 2 to 3 times a year. They all get short "puppy cuts" and I let them get a bit longer in the Autumn & Winter. The mix of Maltese/Shih Tzu means she has a soft wavy coat that is very low shed but does require regular brushing and grooming.

Tootsie has plenty of energy. She loves to play with toys, go for our daily walks and she gets the zoomies a few times a day when she just runs around with joy. Our neighbor calls her the "hoppy girl" because when she frisks around she sort of hops, too. She also loves being a lap dog and can be content just laying beside us.

She is a good little camper, she just loves rides in the car or truck or whatever and is always very excited when we say "Time to go for a ride".

Here is a picture of Toots, after gathering up all the toys in the house at the end of play time.

Here she is hopping around in the snow earlier this year.

Good luck with your decision making, adding Min Pin into the mix would make for an interesting combination.

I hope you get him as I sure would like to see what that mix looks like. One thing's for certain, he's gonna have a lot of personality! Good luck with your decision.
