Today is the day I start the axle flip on my Desert Fox 38-5U; 38 feet and three axles of pure bliss...

Hmmmm? Are you flipping the axles or welding spring perches on top of the axels the way they sit now?
I believe the correct way is to weld on the new spring perches.
The reason for doing this is because the axle tube is slightly bent with a crown in the centre. If you actually flip the axles, the axle tube will be bent down in the center resulting in uneven wear on the tires.
Another reason for doing the correct way is because of the design of the brake shoes. The front brake shoe is normally longer. If you flip your axles, this puts the longer shoe at the rear.
I hope this is of some help.

No problem, it took longer to get going today but I made progress. The 5er is up on jack stands and one axle is done. I will take some pics tomorrow when there is more light. It looks like I have about 5 inches more height, judging by the relaxed state of the brake drums. I am temporarily losing my shocks but I will work out a fix for that soon with some new brackets.

The axles aren't acutally flipped, the flip term is when the axles are remounted under the spring packs rather than on top of them.

I still have a few things to do.
The shocks need a lower bracket fabricated to be mounted again.
I am going to have a welder come by and tack the spring perches in place, even though it is optional, I think it should be mandatory.
Over all the process is pretty easy and the hardest part is making sure the old and new perches were exactly parallel.
