I spent the entire summer of 1989 in Lake Tahoe without seeing one bear -no evidence that a bear had even been in the camp. Most of my time was spent on the south side of the lake - but I did camp a few times back towards the snow cross. I worked up in the Heavenly area. It's good to hear the bear has made a comeback - although it is always challenging when the bear enters "domesticated" areas.

I don't want to know how you found that out.

Something to ponder, with all the Bears we have in the Tahoe area and all the tourists; how many tourists have been attacked or killed? None.
Keep the campsite clean and he won't bother you. BTW, a guy shot one recently because it was rattling his door, he went to jail.
Don't make this into something it is not. Yes be aware, careful and keep your distance from the Bears, but odds are he is not out to eat you and your wife.
Also, Douglas County Sheriff responds to Zephyr Cove, it isn't out in the sticks. Almost an urban area, there is no lack of 911 service at your location.
