We have a 2000 W Heart inverter/charger and a Xantrex remote panel with a "load sharing" provision. This function insures that the rig will not draw more amperage than the shore power breaker can handle.

My remote can select from 5 amp to over 30 amp in about 5 steps.

My question is this, does the load sharing setting impact the rate at which the house batteries can be recharged by the generator?

The answer to your question is YES. I have the same system you have and what I do is set it at what ever your shore power is. If I am hooked up to 30 amp, I will adjust it to 30 amp, if hooked up to 50 amp I do the same. I have never had any problems with my Xantrex inverter/charger tripping. My batteries stay charged up 99% of the time. There is no way that you can boil your batteries with the inverter/charger you have, unless you push the button to equalize.

You can easily boil or overcharge some battery types if you do not have the proper battery type selected on a Heart 2000W inverter/charger.

How can you over charge when the inverter/charger is equipped with a charger that will trickle down as the battery charges? If that was the case, you would have boiled out the water all the time.

Hohenwald48 is correct. Yes, the amps drop off with smart chargers, but if you have it set, for example for wet cell and happen to have gel batteries, you can cook them. Gel's float voltage IS lower than wet or AGM's.

Bottom line, PROGRAM YOUR INVERTER/CHARGER at least twice a year, as TEMPERATURE is one of the "programmables".

Go to page 20 on the link below to see the different float/acceptance voltages used to charge batteries based on the (4) four battery types that are selectable on the Heart 2000W inverter/charger. Selecting the wrong type can overcharge your batteries. Additionally, inproper location of the temperature sensor (or failure of the sensor) can result in excessive charge voltage due to incorrect temperature compensation.
