I wouldn't laugh... They are basically based off the old Willis Jeep Which they had been building over there since 49, so I'm going to bet that they are pretty reliable. With 4 wheel drive standard a price tag around 20k a diesel and 30 mpg's a 4 year,60k bumper to bumper warranty, yea I think they will sell lot's of those. The big 3,crap even Japan doesn't have anything like that!
Sorry, Reteno

I heard about this truck over a year ago. Ive been reading some reviews on the truck (the test models that are floating around) and so far they seem to be very reliable and strong

FORD NEEDS TO BRING THE DIESEL RANGER TO THE US

Problem is you will not be seeing any small diesel Pickup from a major manufacturer in the US for quite a considerable time.
At the moment GM, Ford and Chrysler need to recoup the costs of the introduction of some recent full size Pickups. That is going to take forever.
The Mahindra is pretty rough and has very limited abilities compared to other 3 Litre diesel Pickups on the Australian Market.

IMO, these will fill a niche market and do well in that market. They're good, tough, strong, little trucks with very little in terms of other features and refinement. (In other words, more like pickup trucks were back when they were bought specifically for hauling stuff, and not for hauling people.)

For those that want a basic, rugged, truck with few features and not much refinement this is going to end up being a nice affordable option.

FYI - Mahindra has been making trucks since WWII. They know what they're doing.

What do you mean by that? Both Ford & Chevy are introducing major upgades to their pickup lines next year. The last chevy upgrade was on the old frame anyway.

Looks like it was 1945 when they started getting USA attention.

I did not know they built the Ford Escort for some markets. I remember when they started producing the IH tractor in the 60's. It seems they have the talent and experience to build about any vehicle.

When I first heard about them I was excited. A small diesel pick-up, I was thinking of checking them out. Then I saw the photos and thought they looked just too ugly to even consider (not "brutish" ugly which would work for a truck, but "cutesy" ugly, which doesn't). I hate to say it, while I still feel that way about the crew cab, the regular cab is kind of starting to grow on me (I still feel it goes too far in the "cutesy" direction though).

If they would price them right as a new introduction to the American market I think they could do well. Remember when Kia and Hyundai came here, they were much less than anything else on the market, even after their quality caught up it took a few years for the prices to catch up (I had a 2004 Sonata which I wish I kept- I liked it better than my BMW believe it or not). If Mahindra prices similarly I think they might catch on, especially with businesses which might not mind if they are a little ugly and might appreciate that they look different (if the vehicle is eye catching people may be more likely to notice your advertising). Good payload, good mileage, a decent price, reliable (hopefully), who wouldn't like that? However, at the "low 20's" price they were talking about in the video, I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig and I'm not sure how many others would either. Throw in the 5K towing and it is closer to the Ford Ranger than the mid-sized trucks and why would I pay in the "low $20s" for an unproven truck when I could have a much more proven Ranger with similar capabilities for about the same (maybe less depending upon equipment) or a Frontier for the same to a tad more? Price them right for introduction of a vehicle with no known name or track record on the American market (and right or wrong, being from a country not known here as a manufacturing powerhouse will hurt its reputation until it proves otherwise). Then after they prove themselves do what Hyundai has been doing the past few years and raise the price to U.S. manufacturer price levels and lower tier Japanese manufacturer price levels.

FORD NEEDS TO BRING THE DIESEL RANGER TO THE US

I rode shotgun for a few days in one of the Ranger Diesels in Romania last year. Surprising acceleration, I told them that if they had these in the US I would buy one. They were surprised that they weren't available here. When I told them that the only diesel PU in the US was larger than that, they were surprised. "They make them bigger?" was the incredulous question.
