I live in the US and travel by RV 6 months out of the year. My doctor has recently suggested that I go on Crestor, for lowering my choloresterol. My medical coverage doesn't cover prescription drugs, so I can buy Zocor for $48 annually or go on Crestor for $1225 annually. Do any of you fellow travelers know where or how I could obtain the Crestor at a greatly reduced price? I have used Medco for mail-order, but have not tried any other mail-order services. Has anyone solved such a problem or has any suggestions? Thanks in advance, KRJ

Does your doctor know you don't have Rx coverage? Simvastatin (Zocor) is a pretty powerful statin, and may be more than adequate at a substantial savings. It would probably be worth asking him what additional benefits he thinks you will get of Crestor over simvastatin.

I'm not a doctor, but am pretty familar with CV drugs.

DH and I both use Simvastatin. Dr. first put him on Lipotor, but Simvastatin is MUCH more affordable and Dr. is comfortable with it.

Hi,

I got a Crestor Savings Card from AstraZeneca through Opus Health which gets me a month's worth for $25. Actually it's $12.50, since I get a 20mg. tablet and split it.
Crestor supposedly raises HDL/LDL ratio.

Putting the cost aside - I can tell you from experience that Crestor IS NOT for everyone......was on it since April (09) and taken off about a week ago....my body feels like a new body, no more aches & pains...I can actually get out of bed in the middle of the night and not walk like a cripple. I have been on some type of Cholesterol medicine since 2004 (first heart cath with stents) until just recently....it seemed to me that Simvastatin had the least side effects....only taken off that because of the by-pass surgery - Dr wanted something "stronger", now nothing at all.......even coming off (weaning) the blood pressure meds....hopefully the depression will go away!

I have to agree and say no one statin will work for everyone. I have been on 5 different statins over the last 13 years. The doctors seem reluctant to take you off them once your on them and more reluctant to take you off one brand and switch to another. With any of them if your muscles, joints, or any major changes take place after starting a statin bring it to your doctors attention right away. I was on one statin that about wiped out my memory before I took myself off it as the doctor kept telling me the memory problem was because I was aging. Sure it was, within 2 weeks of stopping the statin in question my memory became better and took nearly 2 years to fully return. At the time I stopped taking it I informed the doctor and he did put me on another statin. So yes do watch for changes in your body after starting the statin routine. Tell your doctor of these changes and hope you have a doctor that will listen.

If you have ever served in the military you may be entitled to use the VA.

I'm currently on Pravastatin and have tried ALL the others. They all have caused leg cramps other than this one. Of course, you don't necesssarily have to take any drugs to regulate your cholesterol. A good diet and plenty of exercise probably will take care of that potential problem. And no, I don't do much of either!

I have a Kidney Transplant, and generally my Nephrologists are careful about what drugs they will let a Transplant patient take. With that in mind, I retired about a year ago, and I asked my DOC about using Generics to save some money. He let me change over from Lipitor to Zocor without any qualms. He stated that their compositions were nearly the same, and that it was totally safe for me. I have been using it ever since, with no noticeable problems or differences. GOOD LUCK!

Ditto. Wife and I are on Pravastatin. $10.00 for 90 tablets from Wal-Mart. Refillable at any Wal-Mart throughout the U.S. I also must use Medco for prescriptions beyond 3 30 day refills. I get most of my medications from Wal-Mart. Pravastatin is 1/2 the cost thru WM vs. Medco.
