I understand where you are coming from. A year ago on Feb 5th I could not get out of bed. I could not move from waist down, I thought I was having a stroke. Three weeks in hosp, they sent sample of spinal tap to Mayo Clinic and results was Guillan-Berrea. I had taken flu shot a few weeks earlier. I had taken the flu shot for years with no problem. I lost 20 lbs in a few hrs and lost all control from waist down. I was in hosp for over 3 weeks, then started therapy for month's and was on a walker and then to cane. Now I am walking and getting to use M/Home again. Still have burning in hands and feet and cannot walk very far without resting. I have mixed emotions about flu shots, but am scared to get another one. Good Luck and keep working at it and it should get better.

I have received a number of notifies either questioning why this thread was in class A or why I had not moved it. There was also some sentiment that the thread was misleading.

The thread could well have run in another forum but that does not make it inappropriate for it to run in the class A forum. By definition the forum if for class A travelers, granted most of the topics in class a are specific to issues associated with class A.. But we also have a variety of topics about Rving and traveling with a class A.

Many if not most of our members do not visit other forums. When member of our class A forum has a serious health issue most of us are interested and want to know about progress and to offer up support in the form well wishes and prayers.

These forum are intended to be an extension of the RVing experience. I do not feel in inappropriate when a class A member choses to post a significant personal experience...So from time to time you will see them posted here.

If any see a thread they deem inappropriate I do appreciate hearing about it in the form of a notify or PM... If, as in this case, I do not see it the same way then the best suggestion is to just block the thread that way it will just disappear. I use that feature on forums I do not moderate for those threads I have no interest in.

There was also some sentiment expressed that the information would be of value in a different forum, while that may well be true the class A forum is the most widely read forum by a significant margin. And for the most part the type of RV that a member owns or aspires to is the home forum for most members... Those with special interests will visit the other forums that their needs or interests dictate.

In terms of the thread being misleading... I would disagree... It appeared to me that Mr. Mark was chronicling his experience which he reported was one in a million. Each of us reading the thread will take away their own meaning.. In my case my focus was and is Mr. Marks condition and prognosis.

Mr. Mark I am glad you are recovering and the prognosis is for a full recovery. I am interested to hear of your progress. Your in my prayers for a full and speedy recovery.

Wish you a very speedy recovery. I had something similar happen to me a few years back two days after surgery. I had no strength in my legs and arms and could barely get around with the help of a walker. Back to the hospital for 4 days for all kinds of test, including a spinal tap, final analysis was one of the compounds used in the anesthesia for my surgery caused my problem. I now carry a medical card with the name of it so if I have surgery again (which I have had) I tell the anesthesiologist not to include in their anesthesia. After a few months I got my strength back and now all is normal.
I do get the flu shot every year just as a precaution along with the pneumonia shot every 5 or so years. Never been sick after taking the shots but I guess there is always a chance, but I think the prevention is better than the disease.

I certainly understand the importance of vaccines, immunizations, etc., and I'm all for them. That's why I've had a flu shot every year for over 20 years. I'm not allergic to eggs. Who would have known that this time I would have a bad reaction?

I did find out in the hospital that I'm allergic to Heparin. Heparin is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that prevents the formation of blood clots. It was injected in the port that was installed at the base of my neck where it was used to take blood and to connect to the machine for the plasma replacement.

Again, thanks JohnnyT and all of you for the kind words and for letting this thread run.

Safe camping,
MM. (age 51)

I received my first and only flu shot while in the military. I got to spend 3 days in the hospital with the flu. That was 46 years ago. I've not had one since, but I do get the flu about once every ten years or so. The last two were bad cases, one in 1998 and a light case of H1N1 this year. In both cases I ran a temp of 104 for a day. Personally I'd rather take the chance that I do now than get another flu shot. My wife had her first flu shot about ten years ago and collapsed on the stairs 5 minutes later with a bad rash all over her body (allergic reaction). Needless to say she does not get flu shots any more.

Mr Mark, Thanks for posting. Johhny T, Thanks for the explanation.
