My 97 chev 3/4T, 454 cu in, auto, 4X4, pickup has LT 245 75r 16 tires on it factory sized.

I have a chance to buy 4 good used LT 235 "85"r 16 tires.

Question is with the 3:73 rear axle ratio, wondering what effect if any the larger diameter tires will have on pulling my 7,000 lb camper ?

Any thoughts ??

Thanks

Effectively increase your gear ratio a little.

The change will be an increase in tire diameter of 32 mm, not enough to make any difference. Just make sure you don't lose any load rating.

6 tire rpm per mile difference and less than 1% error in speedometer.

Sunline1, I went to the 19.5" and I tow about the same trailer. My tires made my speedo read about 10% under speed. Mine still pulls great, it likes to run a bit faster in OD with the cruise on to keep from unlocking the converter. I just use the pedal more and can keep it locked at my desired speed.

You should check date code to see how old the tires are. JMHO!

It's not so much the pulling the camper, it's the weight rating of the tire. Most good tires shops refuse to put lesser rated tires on. I was told it's the law but ....

Deen

These used tires are from a relative, and they are load range E as are my current tires. Load range E came on the truck when it came from the factory, as I ordered it.
