Need to schedule next springs vacation shortly at work. I have 2 possible 2 week time frames which may or may not be so close together as to make a choice a moot point. Last week of Apr/1st week of May, or last week of May/1st week of Jun. Don't have a specific destination in mind, just touring the state eating BBQ. If you're from Tn, which weeks would you pick and why? Our biggest issue is we like uncrowded state parks and such.

Either one of those time frames could be very good or bad due to weather. Crowds could be an issue on the second date if MD crowds hang around. The weather can be wet and cold or hot and humid (east TN) I personally like your first date because of weather, the frost are gone and the birds are singing. Great time to be in TN.

Crowds will be smaller in Apr/May window because school is not out yet. We always vacation before 5/15 or after 9/15 for that reason.

Check out Piney Campground at Land Between the Lakes. We are going there tomorrow. http://www.lbl.org

I'm not from TN but have traveled there often. If going to the mountain area it can still be quite cold during that earlier week. If in the lower elevations either week should be good.

I would go and have gone the last of April first of May. The wildflowers are in bloom in the SNP crowds are manageable and the weather is generally good. I have been thee at that time when it was snowing. Now I am talking about East TN. The State parks in Tn some of the best.

Try Natchez Trace State Park, right off I-40 at Lexington, TN. Try BBQ at Scotts BBQ on the east side of Lexington. Rated as one of the very best.

I can't take the cold like I could as a kid. I always prefer the warmer (suppossed to be) times of the year. I love to sweat. It means I am warm or even hot.

Thanks all, I'll opt for the earlier of the 2. At the moment there are no plans for the mts as we see them all the time up here so I shouldn't run into snow. Scotts BBQ here we come.

I agree with opting for the earlier weeks before school lets out. The weather should be quite nice then, outside of the possibility of thunderstorms. Not to be an alarmist, but I would just be sure to have a weather radio with you, as TN is known to get severe storms and possibly tornadoes during that time frame. I wouldn't change my plans because of it, but it's good to be prepared.

Thanks for the tip.
