No doubt, being packaged with Windows IS the reason for IE's huge market share. Most of the companies I have done work for will only allow the use of IE on company machines. FF is the browser of choice that I recommend and once you adapt to the slight differences, few ever return to IE. The security alone is worth the small trouble to try FF.

Many people don't like to go "Outside the Windows Environment" for some software. They just use what cane already installed.
One lady told me that Google was "junk" and only used what came installed in her PC at the time. May have been Yahoo or some such.
Fear of the world outside the box helps to keep MS on top.
I just bought this new PC and they tried sell me MS Office and I told them I use "Opern Office". They're reply was "never heard of it", "must be junk".
They make a couple of bucks saying that,so I understand.
Of course FF passes the OLD IE, thats a no brainer.
IE will be strong for some time to come.

According to Net Applications, neither IE 7 or IE 8 have passed IE 6. Of course, that will change as Windows 7 usage increases.

If you think about the fact that Windows (some version) is on over 95% of the PC's in the world which will include some version of IE, Firefox has made some serious market penetration.

I bet most people that use Firefox also use IE on their PC so to say Firefox passes IE6 in popularity is a joke.

I dont either unless I hit a page that is written with the proprietary code from FrontPage. It is not W3C compliant.
And the measurements arent what is on a PC but is measured by what browser is used when visiting sites.
As vermiyle demonstrates it can be tracked.

No IE6 here, or Windows for that matter. Just Firefox and Konqueror.
