We took our first camping trip to Wisconsin last summer. Spent 5 days in Door County and had a great time. We are planning to return soon!

We spent about 10 days at the Playful Goose campground in Horicon. We really enjoyed exploring the sights in the area, as well as visiting family. The Horicon Marsh is a neat place to visit, and we had fun touring some of the cheese factories. I never checked to see if the John Deere factory in Horicon offered tours.

It is true it can be lovely and cool in Wisconsin and this year after the 4th it did get cool for awhile. We were in Alaska and it was hot. September was just wonderful and the color this fall was beyond belief. While camping in the Minoqua area in early Oct it snowed four inches. Just beautiful with large flakes landing on the colorful leaves. We built a campfire and sat around it with snow falling. It was a great couple of days. Of course we do own long pants and jackets and knit hats and gloves and hooded sweatshirts so cool weather is no problem. The air is so lovely the cold is tolerable. It was toasty and warm in moho so not really roughing it.

The city in N. Wisconsin that is on an island is Minoqua, WI. Tourist area, but fun. In Door County, try Bailey Grove CG in Baileys Harbor, WI. In NW Wisconsin try Lake Chippewa CG in Hayward, WI.

....also, Wisconsin gets a bad wrap for being cold. Yes, October thru April can be chilly, but you cannot find a more comfortable place to camp in the summer than Wisc. Just bring some bug spray as the mosquitoes can be a pest in the summer.

Just spent a week there. Our first time above great, I can not wait to go back. It had the look and feel of New England not a Peninsula northeast of Green Bay.

We live & love exploring our state, some great campgrounds & state parks. We live only 20 minutes from Horicon & never camped at Playful Goose to close to home. Smokey Hollow in Lodi, Indian Trails in Pardeeville, 2 of our favorites.
