Which brand is best? I am wanting to upgrade to something better. The one I have is a WF 8955 ANP. I was looking at a Xantrex 60 amp at "bestconverters.com"

The Xantrex XADC-60 is excellent. Although you probably only need the 40 unless you have more than two batteries.

WFCO is also good but 55 amp is usually too large to function well with just one or two batteries. A 35 amp WFCO board replacement for $135 should work better than the 55 as far as moving to boost mode.

I was just trying to stay close to the amperage output of what came in the trailer. I'm just not too fond of the WFCO brand seeing it only lasted 4 years.

Good point. Some (all?) converters have the feature that the rig's 12v systems have first call on the available amps and the rest of the amps are then available for battery charging. This is already bad if you want a faster charge ( higher amps) If you downsize the converter's total amps so it will do boost with the size of wire fitted (you get a higher voltage in boost so more amps--if the rig is not using those amps for something else) you run the risk of not having as many amps available for charging even if you do go into boost.

All very situational what would suit the individual for how you camp.

Even before I switched to LED lights I rarely drew over 15 amps. Even then for just a short time. Unless you are going to add a bunch of 12v accessories like tank heaters, smaller will do just fine with one or two batteries. JMHO.

45 amps and under will allow you to use a 1000w generator to recharge if that matters.
