I am looking to buy a 2007 Dodge 3500 dually mega 6.7 with under 10k miles for $34K. First Dodge I will ever own. Too many chevy friends and they say 07 was a bad year. It was built early 07. I will be towing a large 10K # travel Trailer and using for work everyday. Do about a 100 miles a day and a lot of 800 mile trips with trailer and without. What kind of mileage can I expect without trailer. ANd any problems with this year. Truck is in great shape, was used to tow boat only.

Make sure you get all the engine software updates performed by the dealer. As long as you drive it 45 MPH or over several miles each week to keep the DPF cleaned out you should be happy with it. Those who drive them short distances at low speeds constantly tend to have the majority of the DPF regen issues.

Has to be a late 07 to have the 6.7CTD as when they did the switch to the 6.7s was called the 07 1/2. I have a 07 1/2 with the 6.7 that I bought with 1800 miles on it that was a Lemon buy back and now has 10k miles and I have had NO problems. As stated above as long as they are worked or driven for other than short trips I do not think you will have any problems. They just like to be worked hard. Seems like about 300 miles around town/stop and go driving and my DPF message comes on. I just select a lower gear that keeps the RPMs up in the 1800 to 2000 range and after about 20 minutes it goes back out. I make a habit now of just using 4th or 5th when runing around town and have not had any issues.

Once you get the current program update, you will be fine. Drive it like the manual says and you should have no problems. I drive mine 5 miles one way to work everyday and have yet to have a problem after 28K miles.

Run it, make it work, the harder the better. You can't hurt it from overworking it. As already mentioned, if you have all the current updates done, you will have no problems with this truck.

I have a 07 6.7 dually and love its towing ability pulling my 13,350 pound fiver.
Before you even take delivery, have the dealer turn on the high idle feature, the daylight running light feature, do all of the software updates and be sure that they do the turbo desoot too. Then drive it. They do not like a steady diet of city stop and go driving. 100 miles a day you will love it. I unplugged the EGR weeks ago and the fuel economy went up a lot. Some do not feel it is worth the effort, but anything you an do to prevent the exhaust reintroduced into the intake it worth it IMHO. In town keep the automatic in fourth and the EB on all the time. If you keep the RPM about 1800 most of the time it will have gobs of power.

2007.5 and later has the 6.7. Earlier still the undauntable 5.9 Drive it like you stole it!!. My 2008 unforunately had to have the DPF replaced as it had become clogged almost totally somehow at 17400 miles. No lights/overhead message ever came on. I always run it with the brake on and NEVER LUG the engine. I keep it "turning and burning". Power and milage went waaaaaaaayyyyyyyupppp!!! 35mph....3rd gear! 45 or so 4th gear! above that 5th! Over 1800 rpm...6th!JMHO

Please, no one say "drive it like you stole it". We need a new one...
I'm just saying....
I unplugged the EGR and it wanted to regen every week......mileage was about 15 city. I get about 13 now with it plugged back in. I unplug it while towing and get around 11.5 and don't have to worry about regen as it is constant while towing...
IT IS AN AWESOME PULLING BEAST!!! You will NOT be disappointed.

My 2007.5 CTD had some issues with the emissions for a while (lots of check engine lights) but after a new turbo and EGR valve replacement and several computer flashes it is running quite good now. They've pretty much gotten most of the bugs worked out.
If you don't run the truck hard enough or make only short trips the DPF will start to fill up and you'll get a message on the overhead that regeneration is required. The process is not difficult or time consuming. You only need to run the truck at highway speed for about 15-20 minutes and you're good to go for a while. Some people have said they needed to run their trucks for about 45 minutes or so to complete regeneration but my experience has been that it only takes a few minutes.
