Hap Hazard wrote: Look under my name "Hap Hazard". I detailed the inspection and test in great detail along with some tips, i.e. go down to the DMV a couple of weeks prior to your test on the same day as your test. Sit back and watch to see if someone else is taking a test (my rural DMV had people testing all day as they only tested one day a week). Simply hang back and follow that person on their driving test. Once you've discovered the route you can drive it and look for crosswalks, school zones, speed limits etc. You'll also find where the examiner will have you change lanes, do your back up test and parking. My pre-trip inspection was very complete and I was marked down for a failure to turn on my defroster to test it (still passed without any issues).
You must be careful to not miss a bunch of points but the test was very easy and is meant to show you can handle your rig. If you're sloppy, careless, or driving more rig than you can handle, they'll score you that way. Good Luck.

I did exactly what you’re taking about for my son when he took the driving test. Funny thing it was the same DMV and the same route I took when I was a young man thirty five years ago!P.S. He passed..

No "extra" driver needed in Bakersfield...never even mentioned it. The safety portion of the test was thorough but the driving was easy. I spent more time flirting with the examiner than anything else!!!

Test was very easy. Took it at san bernardino test center. All they do is testing.
Didn't need a licensed driver they didn't even ask.
Backing into a 12x20 space was difficult without an extra set of eyes but do able even with my 40 fter. The drive was even easier, just like taking a Sunday stroll.
All in all took about 3hrs with a wait for an instructor.
The walk thru is easy to. I will post my skills test so you can see what they look for...all you have to do is mention each thing.

I have already taken the written test and am going to take the drive/walk through at San Berdoo in the next month. Did you need an appointment? If so, how long did you have to call ahead? Please post you skills test, I would love to see it. Thanks.

A question to every one who has taken the pre-trip test. I have seen someone on this forum say that they marked every thing that needed to be checked with those stick on dots. Has any one left the dots on while taking the actual test?? What could the DMV say??
