I think they found out they Can't compete with Domestic Diesel Trucks... They are out of their league...What EVER HAPPENED TO PATRIOTISM in America??? What ever happened to taking PRIDE IN YOUR COUNTRY? When you Buy a Foreign NAMEPLATE you are contributing to weakening your Country..At one time quality was an issue, but that is NO LONGER TRUE!!. Fords Quality is ahead of HONDA AND TOYOTA and if Chrysler is at the Bottom, WE ARE ECSTATIC!! We have a PT CRUISER and a DODGE CTD, my Friends Have Dodge Rams, my Brother in law and a MYRIAD OF OTHERS meant on the Camping trails... NOT ONE OF US HAS HAD A PROBLEM with our JUNKIE CHRYSLERS!!!!NOT ONE... I am Proud to have Unreliable Dodges and Pts that don't give any troubles....Kinda like buying a new Toyota that the car Accelerates without stepping on the gas! If that is Reliability, I will stay away...

seriously...you drive a dodge? you do realize most likely it was built...im sorry.. assembled in Mexico with chinese parts. But whom am i to speak since i have noticed most the parts on my ford were made in china also.
My previous tundra was assembled in america by americans, oh yeah in the 45k miles i owned it i never saw the so called acellerator issue.
Its a global world, i work for a german company and love it, some money stays here and some goes there, thats how i survive.
Now lets play nice and stop beating down other brands, they all have their place on the road.

Now lets play nice and stop beating down other brands, they all have their place on the road. Sorry, But I fail to see how this "GLOBAL WORLD" helps us... Cheaper prices? nope, Better products?, nope, more Americans out of work? yes... You may say I am a "protectionist", and you are Right, I am...I cannot compete with a person who has no house payments or credit cards or 2 car payments... Sorry, I cannot work for 2.00 per day...If that Dodge was made in USA do you think it would cost more?? It can't, because the market won't bare it...America is one of a VERY few countries who does not need anything from other parts of the world.. We have Energy, Minerals, Abundant farm land, river ways and coastal shores.. so why do we export all of our JOBS?? Not everyone is College material nor should it be so.. A friend of mine did not make it out of the 9th grade but he can FIX ANYTHING, owns his own Excavating company an is doing allot better than about 90 percent of College Grads.. I do think that cummins is made in America, along with the NV-5600 tranny, axles, tires were etc....For every job that leaves America, it puts other Americans out of work... This is OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM in my opinion...If jobs stayed here we would not even be talking about HEALTH CARE reform...This economy is all tied to NAFTA AND GATT and Giving China Most Favored nation trading Status...We can talk about the Economy and health care all day long, but without good jobs, it is all a moot point..

That's right--our economic problems will be solved if we retreat into protectionism. Just look to history (Smoot-Hawley) to see what we need (not) to do in a time of economic distress.
Can you say "beggar thy neighbor"?
Sheesh, some days are harder than others to be an economics teacher!
BTW, one day I would like to buy one of those Saltillo, Mexico-assembled Dodge CTDs.

Sorry, but your post falls short in so many ways. First, Toyota has never tried to compete in the diesel market. Second, I am so much of a patriot that I spent 20 years defending this country's constitution that allows me to believe I have free will and can buy whatever I want. I drive a Ford based motorhome and recently traded a Ford truck for a Toyota truck. Reason why? The Ford was a rough riding, rattle trap piece of crap. Finally, the Toyota accelerator problem is related aftermarket floor mats. Improperly sized ones at that. They get stuck under the pedal and the driver freaks out. BTW, I used to own Dodges, and loved them. I had numerous Rams trucks, Dakotas, Cherokees, even a PT and a Neon. They were great vehicles even if only a pig farmer would buy them.

Rather than getting into a "MY BRAND IS BETTER THAN YOUR BRAND" rant....
First, the original piece was a blog...and we all KNOW about opinions. I bought a 2007 Tundra CrewMax. It is a FINE truck. We ran 40K trouble free miles with it. It was my wife's daily driver. With the 5.7 motor we averaged 17 miles per gallon. Short of a Vette or Viper, there wasn't anything I couldn't smoke from a stoplight (when wifey would let me drive it...) I sold my old Chevy 2500 and bought a F350 with a 7.3 PSD. It pulls our travel trailer WORLDS better than the Tundra did. But, it's a ONE TON truck compared to a HALF TON truck. Apples and Oranges. We sold the Tundra and got a Rav4 for the wife. She is happy with parking the smaller vehicle. If Toyota would make a heavy duty diesel truck, I think it would be a QUALITY product. Probably would be made in America, by Americans. However, Toyota doesn't make a 1 ton diesel truck. What Toyota DOES make are half ton trucks, and darn fine ones. Compared to the Big3 half tonners, I think (my OPINION) that it's a better truck...but to draw a comparison, you have to compare apples to apples. To just spout off that brand X is better than brand Y without direct comparison is just ignorant. I've owned both....and both are excellent vehicles for their INTENDED purpose. But you must match the vehicle with what you want to do with it.
Just my 2 cents.....

Quote: I think they found out they Can't compete with Domestic Diesel Trucks... They are out of their league..

Their target competition was never the diesel market, because they dont make 1 ton D. trucks. They make 1/2 ton trucks- and one of the best I have ever owned- made in San Antonio.
It has never crossed my mind to brow-beat someone for buying a product (that they enjoy) that I might not consider likable for whatever reason. Thats the way of the free market.

Interesting that you need to put a diesel truck up against the Tundra to come out ahead. You seem to confirm there is no American 150/1500 that can compete against Tundra.
One ton class Toyota pickup has not arrived yet. I can't wait until it does.
