Now that is some SERIOUS FUN! I want to camp with you guys, ride your bikes, eat your fish and drive your boat!! BRIAN, you're my new BFF buddy. I'm not sure what the second "F" stands for, but you're it. We camped right where you did on that point, I forget the name, and loved Flathead. We thought about moving to Polson until looking at winter temps. It's gorgeous there.

Janet wants to know... after enjoying all of your pictures she asked... how did your wife get in and out of the camper with the crutches?
For that matter, even the truck would be difficult.

With the truck, the step is wide enough so she could sit down on it, slide against the truck, then get her good foot up on it then stand up one-footed. The camper was a lot trickier when it first happened. The break was small enough (at the very end of the bone) that they did not cast it and told her to begin weight bearing as tolerated. So she was just very ginger with weight on it, but could put enough to get her up each short step into the camper. I helped her a lot the first few days but pretty soon she could manage pretty well, and she quickly got sick of the crutches and probably pushed it a little too much. It was decent in the morning, but by end of day pretty sore. We did a lot of rotating our of ice wraps. I've accumulated a pretty good supply of them, and for that matter, I've accumulated enough other stuff to open an orthopedic supply house. We now finally have a set of crutches to go with a walker, various knee braces, ankle boots/braces, electrical muscle stimulators and on and on. We should be pretty well ready for old age if we make it there. Middle age has been hard on us, or perhaps, we've been hard on it depending on your philosophy!

Hey Brian. What a wonderful start of your trip. The pictures are made even better by your commentary, with them. Having these trips detailed by you, Sleepy, pjay9 and BradW, make the normally boring “Family Vacation!” pictures come alive. I realize it is harder to stop and add dialogue, with each upload, but it makes it fun to follow along with the trip when you do. That is great news the DW was not slowed with the ‘miss-step.
I am doing well, still recharging, after getting back from the 5 week Teton/Yellowstone/Salmon River/Lassen/US 50 Odyssey. My foot is already itching and ready for the next one, later this month.
I welded up and installed my custom First’step this last weekend. I solved the 22.5” First’step problem by putting a 2” receiver box, under the overhang on my hitch, and the First’step now slides out for use, retracts when not.
Keep the series coming!

Great pictures and keep them coming. What state park is that? It looks like Yellow Bay on the east side of the lake.

Brian,
You got me with the "that's where we spread my Dad's ashes". We did that too with my Dad's ashes. Some obscure place in N.M. that he wrote about (he was a Western Lore writer), the four brothers (his sons) took turns......................................................................choke........
Thanks for posting. This was a very different kind of trip for us, and a nostalgic one for you.
I for one am certainly enjoying the variety of trip/expeditions posted on here.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see these kinds of spectacular trips posted on the other RV forums.

We stayed at Finley Point this time and last time. We did fish off Yellow Bay, and I think that's where we caught one of the two fish. The early morning Rich and I went out, while we fished, the local Indians had a bunch of school busses pull in and had some sort of ceremony or exhibition at the amphitheatre and were singing, beating the drums and dancing. It was pretty surreal listening to it as we were trolling around offshore and the sun was rising over the Mission Range. I'd like to get up into the Missions sometime - I've read about some of the hiking and mountain biking up there. There was a roadside sign south of the lake we stopped at last time.....

And the view behind:

I remember for awhile thinking an awesome book or intenret resource would be to catalogue all the roadside signs you see that have great information, but sometimes you just can't stop, especially at all of them or you would never get where you are going. But it would be a great addition to GPS devices if they could read the signs to you.
