My previous report of bad results from a Camping World service visit needs to be modified.

One MaxxAirVent that I said was faulty was fine, I just did not understand its workings.

It's true I asked that the radio coming off or on was not diagnosed.

The refigerator did go bad 3 days after he checked it out to be fine, but that can happen with older units that have not been used for eons.

He left the fuse box switches off and I did not know to check there. I should have termed it a dissatisfying trip and left judgment out of it.

Jay, this was a follow up post to two earlier. Perhaps poorly worded but what did you want clarity on? Doug in Durham

I think he contacted me first but thanks anyway. Had another upsetting experience today at other Camping World. I had scheduled to have refrig. removed due to ammonia smell. The guy said I would not be able to use my propane. I said you need to cap it off. He said I don't think we have any caps. I am thinking, you schedule this removal and don't anticipate having a cap or being ready to go get one if you need one. Then I asked him to removed it out the front door of the Toyota truck by removing the seat first. Otherwise big job taking out the side window. He hemmed and hawed and said I don't know. I am thinking, just take out the bolts take the seat out and take it out. He acted like he needed to reallly think about that, even though looking at it showed that was the reasonable way to get it out with the least fuss. I asked him to reseal the side windows assuming he knew I mean take them out and reseal then replace. He told me this is your original factory job and should be good. My fellow Toyotaians had told me on older units the windows leak even if you can't see it coming in. He was going to put a bead of silicone around the edge. I can do that. They had quoted me 1 hour to reseal both side windows and then he says if you really want me to take them out and reseal that would be 4 hours each. I had lost confidence in him by then and in fact worried about what I was going to end up with at the end of the scheduled two hours. This particular Camping World was a big step down from the one I went to before, which although they made one mistake were professional up front and in back. Doug in Durham

Don't use silicone caulk. Nothing will ever adhere once the surfaces are contaminated with silicone.

Paul, I thought it was a substandard choice but have not had enough direct experience to argue with him. I did challenge him on it. Are you then saying there is no use for it anywhere relative to the RV exteriors? If so, would you go over the various choices and which one to use where? I have heard of Pro Seal, self leveling sealant, butyl tape, etc. Thanks Doug

sunlight,

I would like to understand what happened. What store did you go to. Over the weekend when we traded numerous emails you were unwilling to let me know what store you went to and what store you were going to. I asked that you let me get involved in letting my local camping world store manager involved before you got there. I am not happy when our customers are not being taken care of. What store were you at?

Mlemonis, First of all my initial Camping World visit was to Statesville NC. I feel that place is professionally run, the tech just made an error leaving some switches on. I had avoided going to Greensboro because I had been dissatisfied with them before. At Greensboro yesterday, although I ended up with most of what I wanted the particular tech did not give me confidence in how he was going to approach things. I would think if you were going to remove an old refrigerator you would have propane line caps available or know where to get them. I did not have on the bill that I was buying a new refrigerator. He told me I would not be able to use the propane after taking it out and I had to initiate that he would need to cap it and he made an issue about not knowing whether he had a cap or whether he could find one in store or shop. Then discussing taking the refrig. out he saw it would be a tight squeeze in the little Toyota motorhome so I told him take out the front seat and go through that wide front door. He acted like, he might have to take out the side window, even though I told him other Toy owners did as I said. He said " I don't know and acted like there was a problem". I had asked the morning of the work if they could add resealing the side windows. The service lady, who may have been on her first day, said yes and quoted me 1 hr. for both after talking with someone. When I discussed it with the tech. he said yes could put a line or bead of silicone around the edges of the exterior frame. I had been told by fellow Toy owners that these old windows over time need to be taken out and resealed then put back. He said don't disturb that good manufacturers sealing. When he told me it would be a 4 hour job for each window I backed off of that anyway. Bottom line is for the two hours that I waited while work was done I was very tense and nervous about what work I would end up with as he had completely undermined my confidence. This was absolutely not the case at the former Statesville store which is run professionally. I don't care what you say to them at Greensboro, I will never go back to that store for anything. The tech took out the frig., doing a good job, and installed two other small vents successfully and was friendly but his initial attitude was very disarming to me. I prefer not having you tell a manager ahead of time, they should be able to do a professional job as hired. Its true this way you get some bad publicity. I have been to other Camping Worlds in Myrtle Beach and Arizona and all were very professional. Part of the problem with the Statesville set up is, I cannot leave my RV for an extended period of time, just drop it off as some can. I have no one else to drive, no dingy, and have to do a rent a car. Without a credit card anymore I cannot choose the companies that have one way drop offs, so I have to rent Enterprise and keep it till my RV is ready. That means I gave them a deadline as to when to have mine fixed-2&1/2 days. They also had a tech out sick or something that was originally going to work on mine. I would probably use Camping World for some things in the future, but my next NC visit probably will be to Bill Plemmons RV. They are a Winnebago place and there are people there that have definite experience with my little Toyota motorhome. Thanks Doug in Durham
