I know I'm going to get "flamed" on this one, probably by everyone! But here it goes! I was reading another thread on the Full Timing Forum and and it appeared there was some criticism over someone who is a "full timer" and someone who is not. This got me to thinking. I'm a "Full Time RVer" and here's why.

(Go ahead, blast me out of the water on my thoughts here. I'm thick skinned and won't get upset).

Although I own and still live in a stick built house (actually I own 2 stick built houses), I also own an RV. It's a travel trailer.

This qualifies me for "Full Time" status because:

1) I have possession of my TT 24x7. It's not part time possession. It sits on my property 24x7 when I'm not camping in it. That "possession" is "full time". I live with it every moment. I just don't live "in" it 24x7.

2) I pay a loan on it. It's not a "part time" loan, is a "full time loan" with a payment due every month, just like my house. My house has a 30 year loan, my TT has a 15 year loan? The second mortgage on one of my houses is also a 15 year loan. There's no such thing as a "part time" loan. It's all or nothing!

3) I pay insurance, personal property tax, and license plates for it - 100%. I do wish I could pay these things for the times I'm actually camping with it only - you know, pro-rated. (Now wouldn't that be GREAT!) If you camp in your RV only 2 weeks a year, the cost of insurance, personal property tax, and the license plates would only be 1/26 of the cost I'm paying for it now?

4) I have responsibility for it 24x7 also. That responsibility is not a "part time" responsibility. My wife and I (and the bank) are the sole owners. No one else is taking care of my RV but me (and my wife).

5) Care and maintenance is a "full time" job also. It doesn't matter if it's sitting in a campground or in my yard, I still have to wash it, fix it when something get's broke, and maintain it. That's a 24x7 job also. I can never get away from this.

6) My RV is constantly on my mind 24x7. Even at work. I live for my RV and the opportunity to sleep in it, use it, go somewhere in it. I spend a considerable amount of my income on my RV. I have photos of it on my wall at work, and even in my billfold .... funny, I don't have any pictures of my own kids in my billfold!

7) I keep the TT stocked 24x7 with food and clothing, propane tanks always ready, tires inflated correctly 24x7, and trailer plugged into electricity 24x7 to keep the battery charged and refrigerator cold. Even in the coldest winter months.

So, as you can see, the ownership of my RV is not a "part time" endeavor. There's nothing "part time" about owning an RV. Thus, this qualifies me as a "Full time RV'er."

OK, go ahead! Throw your arrows at me!

No flames but a "full time RV owner" is not the same as the definition usually applied to "Full Time RVer", which is someone who lives in their RV 24/7 in addition to the other 24/7 considerations which you listed.

Can't argue with that logic. Now explain the DIFFERENCE between the more TRADITIONAL fill timer who lives full time in their RV and a homeless person. Is it something MORE than the cost of the vehicle they live in?

DutchmenSport, As you say, each will have their own opinion of a "fulltimer" and you make some good points.

To me, it's living in your RV all the time as we do.

Back in the '70's lived in a Spartan TT 24/7 for 2 years in a 'TrailerCourt' -- don't think that made me a FULLTIMER by RVing standards today. OR did it???

I live and travel in my Motor Home and that does not make me a Homeless Person
I do not live under a bridge and beg for money on a street corner.
I pay my way through life and have for 74 years years'
Pay a lot of taxes for sure.
So don't call me Homeless..
