Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on overnight stopping about mid November somewhere near Medicine Hat or Brooks, and then again around Canmore?

Is there Casinos or Walmarts that will allow overnight and be a little off the road for some quiet, or any campgrounds that might still be open and that you would recommend?

thanks again, Mike

If there is nothing in Canmore - Bowsriver Ridge in Cochrane is open all year. Its really not that far from Canmore.

Walmart in M.Hat is RV friendly. AFAIK there are no RV parks open at that time but if anybody was going to be open it would be Ross Creek on the east side of town just north of #1 highway. I think Tunnel Mountain in Banff plows some sites through the winter - phone them to confirm but I believe they are open year round. If not there's a Petrocan truck stop at the junction of #1 south of Cochrane.

Thanks everyone... does anybody know if the Kiwanis site behind the Museum in Brooks is open for overnighters? One one site it says year round, and on the other it says not...

It looks like a good choice, perhaps a bit quieter than some right close to the highway.

Kinda hard to say where we might have to stop just yet. Hopefully the weather will be favorable for a couple long days.

regards, Mike

If you are near Brooks there is a rest area on the north side of the highway (off the west bound lane). I think its maybe 10 miles or so west of Brooks. I know its open that late in the year because we got storm stayed there one Nov. 11 weekend probably 10 years ago now. Its a big rest area, well off the highway so you don't get road noise.

Hi Artum,

Medicine Hat has a Walmart where I have stayed.

There is a Shell station and Smitty's restaurant on the East side of Brooks south of the highway. They have space for truckers to overnight--and I have stayed there in my RV. There is also a Walmart in Brooks.

There is nothing in Canmore so far as I know. There is a visitor's center but it is posted as "no overnight parking".

Before Canmore there is a Casino called Stoney Nakoda Resort in Morley, AB. You have to ask permission to stay at the security desk.

Good luck with your trip!
