Ditto. Ford dealers who also sell/service commerical size trucks tend to have the better diesel mechanics.
The 6.0's tend to have a lot of problems with the EGR valves.

Thanks guys !!! The ford dealer here with heavy trucks is where I calles frist but there Ford teck has just quite !!!! So they had no one to work on it, huummmmm,.Oh well be to the shop where they referd me to. I'll give them one more shot!! And yes the EGR's are a isuse i been told!It is up to the ford tec. They are the Dr. Hummmmmmmmm !

Same exact truck with DRW. We've put 55,000 trouble free miles on it so far (fingers crossed). We regularly use Cetane and do a short wait when first starting the engine before moving and a longer cool down wait if it has been running for hours and hours. Started it few days ago after it had sat for three weeks and had diesel soot. Running it at highway speed (no TC on) for 20 miles cleared the soot. Actually soot was gone by the time we went the 8 miles to where we can go faster.

JMHO
It is not the turbo or air leaks. Ford's injection programming will hold back fuel until the boost is there.
I'm thinking injection problems.

When I got my 04, I did the same as you. A Ford diesel teck told a buddy of mine "Drive them like their stolen"! I do that now but it still hard to break that old habit of babying. I always use the Power Service Cetane booster in the gray bottle summer and whhite bottle winter.

Signs of injejector problem(s). Also, make sure the dealer updates the computer with the latest flash program...and watch your horsepower go bye bye.

Yes ,I did try driveing it hard and blow the short rubber turbo holes off that they also replaced while it was at the shop!!!! Hummmmmm

Did the problem show up the first time when there was very little fuel in the tank? And had the truck sat for a long period of time nearly empty. The 6.0 common rail does not tolerate moisture in the fuel. Of course the first thing anyone did was change the fuel filter, right?

Maybe EGR or turbo. Had a dealer put a whole new crate motor in mine and that only took them a week. No thanks to the dealer that worked on it for almost a week prior to that.

If you took it to the shop and told them to "replace the fuel regulator" then you're on your own. If you told them to "fix the black smoke problem" then take it back and tell them they didn't fix what you paid them to fix.
