I have to go in for a medical test every three months and decided I would find a doctor wherever we happen to be. Has anyone had to do something like this while traveling and how did you find a doctor in a unfamiliar area? What resourses are there to find a good doctor? Is there a source that rates doctors?

don't know what KIND of tests you're having done but I have to have a PT test done every 5 weeks whether at home or traveling. When traveling I usually just call a local hospital and either have THEM do the test or they will recommend someone in the area. Just be sure you get a letter detailing the tests and what to do with the results, from your regular health care provider, before you leave. If you have DOUBTS about insurance coverage, check that out also.

Several things we have done as Gezzer has multiple health issues.

Find an urgent care clinic - if they can't do the tests they can refer you to someone who can.

Ask the campground management - ask a local pharmacist - call the local hospital and if nothing else works - look in the phone book yellow pages and start calling. That isn't always the best option but use it as a last resort.

If he needs tests we will stop at the clinic chat with them and get a fax number then have his regular doc fax the orders directly to the clinic. the clinic in turn faxes the results to the doc.

Good luck

We check with our Insurance Carrier. They will list the doctors or services that are in our program. We then call one of them to confirm and to be sure they will also accept Medicare. No problem for several years other once. The clinic wanted a fax from our primary doctor. This only took a few minutes carried out in the office.

for Aetna you can just go to "docfind" and specify a location.
