I can honestly say I have walked many campgrounds and EVERY campground has dog poop laying beside a bush, a fence or just along side the road. To me, there are more people who do not pick up poop than those that do. The rules of a campground only apply to other people, not them. But then again, who reads the rules. I would charge $25 a dog if I owned a campground...but what about truck stops, rest areas and other places the "little darling" has to poop...I NEVER see anyone carrying a baggie.

Sorry, Joe this is NOT the forum section for your rant about dog poop, or goose poop, or raccoon poop, or coyote poop, or rabbit poop for that matter. Please spare us the details of how you would run the world if you ruled it. This part of the forum is for people who own pets and RV, if you don't then that's fine... but this shouldn't be a platform for your pet peeves either.

Just be advised that many campgrounds have rules prohibiting leaving dogs unattended in RVs of ANY kind let along a pop up. Why not leave him home if you can't be with him?

Our travel trailer is our home away from home so it is the same for our pets. Since they don't go everywhere we go when we are home... why would anyone expect them to while camping/traveling? That kind of thinking has always puzzled me.....

I guess I see people get upset when music is too loud and it disturbs others, when people walk through your campsite with no regard for your space, when people dump their black water on the ground and don't clean it up.....just don't say anything about my dog...a sensitive topic....the original question was, can I leave my dog in my popup.....most campgrounds (if you read the rules) state they can't be left unattended, inside or outside your trailer...most people just leave when they are told there is a fee for having a dog.

When I had a pop-up, we always took our dog with us, and never had a problem. Dogs generally sleep all day when you're gone. If your dog is well behaved and used to camping, you should be fine. On the other hand, I have seen some campers with dogs yapping at the windows at everyone and thinhg that goes by. Only you would know how your dog may react. Perhaps a little "tune-up" trip before the big one.

One more time, no they don't. We have camped all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, parts of Kansas, Louisiana, and Tennessee. We have never ran across that rule about them being left unattended inside, only outside, which is completely understandable. We camp so the vast majority of the time we are at COE & state parks but we've stayed in a few RV Parks, too. Once again at the risk of sounding repetitive if a campground or RV Park had that rule we would choose to stay elsewhere. The travel trailer is our home away from home, the dogs do not go everywhere we go when we are home, so why should they when we travel?? I just don't get that way of thinking.

For the record, there is very little that upsets me when we are camping so you won't see posts from me whining about whatever others nitpick about. I will admit it does get to me a bit is when people paint all pet owners with such broad strokes based upon their negative feelings &/or limited experience.

Good grief............ I don't care how many say they "don't do it" everyone does, as I said earlier, get a crate and make sure your pup is safe from getting out, run a fan and a radio, and enjoy your self.

Can't say about your toy poodle, it depends, IMHO, how smart and well trained it is. We tour with a TT hybrid, so bunk ends are like a popup. Never had any issues with our German Shepherd, she just goes to sleep and waits for us to get back. No trouble in over 50,000 miles.

How do we know she doesn't bark? Cause we ask the campers along side us. They always say never heard a peep. Our dogs were trained early that NEVER, for any reason, could they bark in the RV. Just took a few tedious days to teach each of them (yes, we have had several. Sure wish they lived longer).

You have two things to consider... the dog getting out and other life forms getting in. For the former, a crate is an excellent option. For the latter, you either need to be somewhere where you're sure of your neighbors, human and otherwise, or have someone available to watch your trailer. There are bad people in the world who do bad things to dogs, and I certainly would not leave mine in a less-than-secure setting in an rv park for 3 to 4 hours unless I was real confident about who might be coming around the area.
