I've been reading and reading and reading about how to tow a car with my Class A. We have two candidates: a 2009 Cobalt and a 1987 Camaro. The Cobalt is manual and the owner's manual says not to tow it, but the guide I've seen referred to here (in MH mag) lists it as a good toad. I haven't checked the Camaro's owner's manual, and it is too old to check that authorized list. Hubby seems to think that to tow it, unless its on a trailer altogether, modifications have to be made to the drive train (or something) which he is not willing to do. Are we understanding this right?

When given a choice of advice, I would usually tend to go with the manufacturer's statements.
Chances are, the Camaro cannot be towed unless the driveshaft is disconnected, or, if it is an automatic transmission, a lubrication pump is installed. Either will use up a sizable portion of a $1000 bill!
IMO, it is best to find a vehicle that will meet your needs, and is towable ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER without any modifications.

You need to decide whether you are going to tow four wheels on the ground (Flat Towing) or use either a Tow Dolly or a Trailer. Each increases your choices for a Toad.

Are you saying you have the manual for the 2009 Cobalt or that the Cobalt is a manual transmission? If the Cobalt is a manual transmission I should think in is towable four down. Double check the manual.

When we were looking for a car to tow, both the 2006 Cobalt and the 2006 Malibu according to their owners manual were towable four down. We bought the Malibu and tow it with no problems.
Did you look at the section about towing behind a recreational vehicle. See if there is a section like that in the manual. If not, then don't plan on towing 4 down.
Some manuals say you can't flat tow, but then in another section it talks about towing behind a recreational vehicle and tells you what to do in order to do it.
Both cars we looked at were automatic.

Both.
It is a manual transmission, and we do have the owner's manual. Hubby says the owner's manual said it should not be towed. But the towing guide lists this car as a good candidate.

Page 4-33 of the 2009 Cobalt's owner's manual states that the car can be towed 4 down by turning the ignition key to accessory and shifting either the automatic or manual transmission to neutral (also says to pull fuse #8 to avoid draining the battery, and don't exceed 65 mph).
I don't actually own a Cobalt, just downloaded the owner's manual - apparently I have too much time on my hands this evening.

According to Remco the 2009 Cobalt with a manual transmission is towable "As Is" and your 1987 Camaro can be towed 4 down if a Lube Pump is installed. If it is a manual transmission then it must be trailered.

Hubby, needs to read the owners manual again, the Cobalt is towable. Can he quote what it states in the owners manual about not being towable? Is he looking under recreation or dingy towing?
