Hmmm, you want south? Try Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennesee, the Carolinas, Arkansas.
Why are you going to stay in one spot? Move around!

Hard to believe it took 3 1/2 pages for someone to mention Mexico.
You have a perfect attitude for wandering the coast (not baja IMHO). When you find the right beach town stay awhile.

Yep, heard some good things about Mexico. Was advised to get about an hour south of border crossings and then start exploring and enjoying the people. Just have to get some insurance before we enter and few odds and ends that can glean from this great website. Thanks.
Cheers,
Kevin
We love Mexico! If you are considering it, go to the forum on Mexico and South America. Read about the things you need to cross the border in an RV. It takes a bit of preparation the first time across. Also, you can check out the best places to cross, depending on where you want to go. The West Coast has more parks and is perhaps easier for the first-timer. Do a lot of reading to find the best fit for you.

Reno gets pretty cold in the winter. I was 100 miles from there the first weekend in October and it dropped below freezing at night and it is still fall!

Move around? Yep, that's what we're doing. Finally arrived in Palm Springs - took us 10 days to get this far. No problem finding a spot to camp. Saw old volcanoes in Lassen National Forest, slept at 9000' in Yosemite, windstorm blew us into (and out of) Death Valley, CA, stumbled through Pahrump (love that name), blew a load of $$$ in Vegas, but the camping was cheap (sigh) and stayed in Joshua Tree National Park last night and am currently sweating it out in PS, CA in 32C degrees (that's about 500 degrees Fahrenheit). Thanks for all the suggestion folks.

We also get bored if we stay in one spot too long. For the last several winters we've been on the road six months less a day into the US and stay one month at each place. One month is about the best rate at most parks and in one month you've had a chance to enjoy the best of what they have to offer in an area. Then onto the next. Last year, it was North Padre Island, TX, then Brownsville, Outside of Phoenix by the Superstition Mountains, Quartzite area, San Diego CA area, Las Vegas. Each were good in their own way and each were south where it was warm. TX was a little too humid for me and AZ was dry, but would I rather sleep in dry sheets or damp sheets. Loved AZ. CA was expensive but nice in its own way and Las Vegas is, well, Las Vegas. That was the end of the trip when winter was retreating so it had warmed up.

Yippee! Mexico it is. We've been down in Baja California Sur for nearly 10 days and it's a blast. Thanks for the suggestion. We're meeting heaps of friendly RV'rs (a lot of 'em are from Oregon) and the Mexican people are very friendly and helpful. Spent a week at El Coyote Bay south of Mulege (Wow! Did they ever get blasted by that hurricane the first week of September) and now we're in Loreto. Going to work our way all the way to Cabo San Lucas.
We never thought we'd go, but it's heaps of fun. Thanks again to all for your suggestions.
Cheers,
Kevin
